I hear this question a lot ...
My wife tells me on a regular basis that people are losing old skills because of the internet. Cheryl thinks people ought to actually go out and meet and talk to someone face-to-face. Imagine!
She's right, of course. On the other hand, the internet has caused many, many people to develop at least one muscle they never ever exercised before ... their ability to write.
In my opinion, anyone who doesn't write online (email, blogs, articles, forums, etc.) is at a huge disadvantage. And the more you do it, the better you will get. The internet is producing an incredible class of competent - and often, very good - writers.
I get asked a lot about writing - especially, how to do it consistently. So in this series of blogs, you'll get to read my experiences & tips & tricks & anything else that comes to my mind about writing, online & offline. I'll keep the posts pretty short & focused. Hope you find them useful.

What a great contribution.
What a great contribution. I agree that writing is one of the most empowering skills a person can develop.
A lot of people have gravitated to creating video for their marketing, which is a great step because it can generate more leads (you can re-use the video content over and over whereas content that's written can really only be used once online). However, here's what I've found:
1. Those who work on their writing in addition to creating video communicate much more effectively in their video because they have already written on a topic, which forces you to think on a topic longer and come up with stronger communication points than if you don't write on the topic first.
2. Those who write and create video get much more milage out of their video because search engines rely on written content in order to know what a web page is about. By embedding your video wtihin an article you get a lot more eye balls to it.
3. Different prospects like different formats. If you only use one (like just video) you are going to miss out on a whole different audience out there who like to read.
4. Most important: While I think video is powerful, I've found that writen content attracts a better prospect because they have been investing more energy and focus into 'absorbing' your message.
So learning to incorporate writing into your marketing is, indeed, rewarding for a business.
Great to see such valuable contributions made here at Better Networker!
Video and Writing- a winning combo
Hi Richard
I'd like to pick up on your case for better writing and Mike's point about video vrs writing. It has been said that YouTube has become a little oversaturated. Not that there's "competition" (there's enough for everybody out there), but it just takes longer and longer to weed out the valuable content from the rubbish.
The process of developing one's writing skills certainly makes one more versatile and better able to communicate.
Also, who knows how long we will be able to post duplicate videos all over the web!
However, I have found that video tutorials (like the ones at Marketing Merge) have really helped me learn step by step, and click by click how to go about actually doing this technical stuff online (I wouldn't be here without that training).
And video also helps me get an idea of the personality of the type of person I'd like to follow - whether I can "click" with them or not. This comes over in video a little clearer than through the written word.
So, agreed, a combo of the two is powerful!
Richard, I look forward to these posts.

Thank You
Thank you so much Richard for a wonderful post. As one who did not in his pre school days pay much attention in class, I now look forward with great excitement in learning from your contributions to these post's.
