Is Your Business a Boy?

Is there something stopping you from loving the business you have chosen to be in?

Addy and Dory I’d like to introduce my granddaughter, Addy, and her little kitty, Dory. She was so happy to get that kitty and I think Dory was happy to get Addy too. They played together all day and if Addy wasn’t carrying her kitty somewhere or pushing her around in her stroller then Dory was proudly perched on Addy’s lap or curled up napping as Addy watched Dory’s namesake swim around in “Finding Nemo”.

Then came the day that Dory needed to go see the vet, just for a routine check-up. Addy was excited to go with Dory. While the doctor was examining Dory he said, “Dory sure is a pretty kitty but she’s not a girl, she’s a boy kitty.” Addy started crying and yelled at her mom to please, please, make the doctor say Dory is a girl. She did not want a boy kitty.

We kind of thought this was funny at first and that Addy would ‘get over it’ but everyday she would ask her mom, “Is Dory a girl yet Mom?” Everyday she was told that no – Dory is a still a boy. After about a week, Addy stopped playing with Dory and was kind of mean to her. She didn’t want a boy in her bedroom. She didn’t want a boy on her lap.

Now we were faced with a huge dilemma: do we outright lie to Addy and tell her that, yes, today Dory is a girl again? Or do we tell her no, Dory is a boy – deal with it. Or was there a better way to help her rekindle her love for Dory?

While looking at Addy’s beautiful little face, I realized how this can happen in our business as well. We join a business because we connected with the person who told us about a great opportunity. Here’s this really cool product that will help everyone and all you have to do is tell your friends and family about it and you could get rich! But before long we come to believe that maybe this great opportunity isn’t exactly what we were lead to believe. Everyone we know is not interested so now what do we do? Your sponsor might suggest you buy leads, hand out business cards, post fliers.

By now, you’re starting to think that maybe this business I joined is really a boy. It’s becoming harder and harder to bring yourself to actually work it. You begin procrastinating. You stop believing and you quit.

So what can we do to ensure that our business continues to be the great opportunity we always knew it could be? We educate ourselves and anyone we choose to do business with. We show them that not only do we have the best MLM, the best products or service but we also have a way to get people to come to you and ask you about your business. I suppose you might be wondering the fate of Addy and Dory – we started to talk with Addy about all the wonderful boys in her life already, her daddy, grampas, uncles and friends. Addy realized all these boys loved her and she loved them. Dory was a boy and he loved Addy very very much.
