Market Your Business with Promotional Items

Read More: Advertising  |  Marketing

Promotional items have been proven to largely increase sales for any business model.  Some businesses are fearful of promotional items because they see it as extra expense and inventory.  The extra expense should have already been budgeted in your marketing at the beginning of the quarter.  If it's extra inventory then you are not out there promoting your business and using what you paid for.  When used, promotional items are very cost effective and cause a great buzz in the industry and in the publics eye about your business and what you offer.

Businesses provide a service or product to its consumer or client.  Whether you run a large corporation or a home based business it is important to include promotional items to your marketing budget.  There are numerous ways to specifically market your business with promotional items.  But because each business is different I will list the top five (5) so that everyone reading this will find value in marketing their business with promotional items.

1.     Name Visibility - Include your name on everything y you use for business purposes such as:  stationary, business cards, e-mail signature line, notepads, pens, business cards, vehicles (license plate signage etc.), signage on store front, tee-shirts, hats etc.  Items with your name visibility can be used or given to current clients and to potential clients.  Before I sold my jewelry business, whenever I was not dressed up, I would have on a tee-shirt with my companies name and logo on it.  I would wear it to my kids’ school, sporting events, trade shows, picnics, just about everywhere I would go.  I had them made up in a variety of colors and it always was a conversation starter.  The more ways you can put your name in front of someone, the higher the probability that they will turn to you first when they need what you have to offer.

2.     Client/Customer Appreciation - It is important to acknowledge your new business.  Use promotional items as gifts to show your new client/customers that you appreciate them.  Whenever you obtain new business or when you present your product/service to potential new business you should always follow up with a note with your company’s information as a thank you for their business or consideration for business.  It shows that you view their business as being important.  Even if they do not do business with you at that time, they will remember that extra touch and you will be highly considered the next time.

3.     Trade Shows/Vending Events - Businesses large and small benefit from participating in trade shows/vending events.  When representing your company you should have promotional items as give a ways so that a piece of you goes away with everyone.  Whatever you give away make certain your companies name and contact information is included on everything.  You will be remembered long after the event is over.  I have used a packet of flower seeds during a spring event and it said "Plant your seeds with a Marketing Takeover and watch your business grow" and I included my contact information.  That campaign proved to be very effective.

4.     Employee/Team Recognition - Promotional products such as business tools or new inventory to use as performance incentives gives your team something to work towards in addition to their monetary bonus.  As they continue to do well they well, receiving tools to help them with their growth will be very much appreciated.  Those tools will assist them in reaching even higher levels of success.  Some examples are:  a new set of business cards with their new title, application forms, laptop case, leather bound company engraved notebook, just to name a few.  It will also work well when their new products are admired outside of the company and they can share how they earned it.

5.     New Product Introduction - Promote a new product through vast e-mail and mailing campaigns branding your name and giving enough information to create interest and curiosity.    Give detail and explain the value of the new product.  This promotion is for former, current and potential customers/clients.  Emphasize the value, quality and performance.  You may get a returning customer/client, spark another interest in a current customer/client or gain a brand new customer/client.

When using promotional products always keep your target market in mind, your budget and stay consistent with the image you want to portray.  So remember, market your business with promotional products and obtain the recognition at a glance that will place you as the company to do business with.

I hope to see you around!
