A Newborn Can teach Us About Business
As I write this today, my son Brendan is one week old... Anyone who has gone through the miraculous process of becoming a parent knows that along the way there are MANY emotions that surface… many of which are not that different from being a home or small business owner.
An overwhelming mix of pride, unconditional love and excitement for the future are sprinkled with fear, doubt and the occasional sense of “oh my god, what do I do now?!!”
As a parent your instincts kick in which I believe is no different from anyone who has inherent emotional leadership strengths…
To survive in the small business market and take on the big guys, you have to be able to set yourself apart and develop your brand and style…
Much like determining what type of parent you will be.
The first time you lay your eyes on your little one, a deep seed of responsibility sets in that you will be responsible for providing for and supporting a life for the rest of your life…
To me this is very similar to your goals and dreams that you have for your business. Your business needs nurturing and support to grow in the same way my newborn does.
There is one key element that will keep you moving forward and striving to be better each and every day:
Your personal “WHY”.
A number of small businesses start with defining your “WHY” – this is basically your motivate or reason for developing your success in your business.
Do not overlook this initial process because it should be the foundation for every choice you make in your business…
This will fuel you to the end, and allow you to develop an unstoppable set of leadership values that will let objections and negative feedback roll off your back without penetrating your core… your why.
