Something a Politician Said

I watched the speech John McCain gave during the RNC and I felt he did have something to say that more people should hear. This has nothing to do with politics, this is not a political post, other than the mention of his name. This applies to both parties, people without a party, people around the world.

During his speech, he said to get up, get out, and DO Something to help you fellow man.

Volunteer, get involved in city council meetings, work in a soup kitchen, donate your time to children's charities.  Make your life about giving back, doing for others, helping people.  Stop worrying about what a politician is going to do for you, and worry about how YOU are going to change your country, and make your country a better place for your family, and your family's future.  Start with your neighborhood.  What can you do there? Your town? Your county? Your state?

Some things you can do to make your world a better place:

Go to a city council meeting.  What issues are affecting your city or state?  Do you even know what laws your state legislatures are working on?  Most people don't, they sit and wait for congress to tell them what they have already done, and then it's too late to stop it.  Get involved!!!

Meet you neighbors.  Join the neighborhood watch.

Volunteer at your child's school.

Donate your used clothing and toys to shelters, churches, the salvation army, waterfront mission, whatever charitable organizations are available in your area. I keep a large bag in the laundry room, and as clothes pass through there that we no longer can use, they go in the bag, and when the bag is full, it gets dropped off at the salvation army thrift store.

Can't afford to donate money or goods?  Donate your time.  Coach a kid's soccer or little league team, donate your time to the library, hospital, zoo, or other organization that could use a helping hand.

Think you don't have time for that?  Even the little things count.  Helping an elderly person or a young mom with 4 kids load their groceries into the car at the store, paying for the person behind you at the toll bridge, pull your neighbor's trash cans back to their house for them on trash day. Let that person in line behind you at the store with one thing in their hand go in front of you at the check out line.

It doesn't have to be a big thing.  A simple smile and a thank you can go a LONG way in this day, when everyone is so wrapped up in their own lives.  You CAN change a person's day, just by being a nicer person.

To all you work at home moms out there, what are YOU doing to help your teams succeed?  Give those new people a hand up. Helping them become successful can come back to you ten times over.  I threw this in here, because I see so many women struggling to make a living, and wanting to be home with the kids.  They join these businesses, with all these promises, and no one helps them.  So take a minute out of your busy schedule posting your ads and calling your leads to ask your team what you can do for them.  What service can you provide to help you fellow mom?  Not what service can you provide to get a check, but what can you do to really HELP? I made it my mission to help my teammates before I help myself, and my life is better for it.

Making your life about service for your fellow man (or woman) will come back to you in ways you can only dream of.

So what are you going to do? Here's a simple mission:  Make it a point to say or do something nice for someone today.  You can start right here on Better Networker.  I can't wait to see what you do.
