Getting Noticed By Google Isn't Everything But It Sure Is Exciting
A Beginner's Notes On The FUN-damentals Of Getting Noticed By Google
I think I'm getting somewhere! Google knows me, or at least knows some of my work. Has it been too long for all of you to remember the first time that happened with one of your articles?
Or is it something that never goes away - the excitement! The celebration! Getting search engine attention is NOT easy. At least I didn't think it was until now. I've been trying for quite a while to use Internet marketing to help build my network marketing business. It seemed to me that all the really cool network marketers can do that. But try as I might, my poor little Squidoo lens was so lonesome. I worked on it over time checking to see if Google would notice. Nope.
Then I learned about breaking it up into segments and did that. Plus I redid some of my anchor text because I began to learn about that too. At least maybe Google would see how cool I was getting, flagging those little robots down. But still, my little lens wasn't anywhere to be found.
So I kept trying. I discovered that I was going for a very competitive keyword phrase. Then I learned that if I would put up a few other articles with less competitive keywords and then anchor them to point to my lonesome little lens, then maybe Google would see me.
I did notice something though. Even without Google attention, I was beginning to receive attention from like-minded people online who were learning with me. We were learning something new every day about merging Internet marketing with network marketing. I didn't seem to be getting anywhere, but at least I was definitely having more FUN.
Network marketing hasn't ever really been that much FUN for me. I have always loved the business model of network marketing but old school methods of recruiting and selling just were not my cup of tea. But something was changing. I think it's a thing called confidence. In my career before MLM, I had that. But not as a network marketer.
I always felt a little silly doing the things we were all taught to do before Internet network marketing - the old way just didn't seem cool. What's different? Well, besides the increase in confidence, (learning to be cool instead of learning to be silly), I think the FUN-damentals of success in network marketing have actually changed.
New Recipe For Success In Network Marketing:
- Add A Dash Of Google and
- A Lot Of Seasoning
The new recipe for successful, simple, easy, network marketing is to add a dash of Google and season with ongoing, up to date training. Well I continued to train and have FUN but still no Google love -not in February, not in March, and not in April. However, my poor lonesome Squidoo lens was starting to get attention from real people!
See, Google pays attention to what real people notice and it takes time. But after the learning curve, the time it takes gets much shorter. So anyway, as a beginner, I was learning Internet network during February, March and April with other Internet learners. We will be life long learners, socializing with our training community, having FUN with or without Google, right? I mean being noticed by Google isn't everything, I kept telling myself.
But when we would learn a little SEO, I would maybe spend 5 minutes optimizing Poor Lonesome Lens. I would link to it every now and then. Then I learned about book marking and so I did that too for the poor little thing.
Then It Happened - Google Noticed!!
I think it was in May 2008 when I officially became cool! Poor Lonesome Lens was on page two of Google when I searched for "MLM Traffic Formula." When you read this, I hope you can still find me there but if not, please stop by "MLM Traffic Formula: Three Terri-fic MLM Traffic Formula Tips..." and leave a comment for my Poor Lonesome Lens. Google finally noticed and that was very cool and so exciting but getting real people to stop by for a visit... well that's way more than cool -that's awesome!

Yep, definitely cause for celebration
It's awesome when you hit the 'first' of anything. Your first ranking, your first lead, your first sale. The buzz is amazing. So well done you.
And keep reminding yourself of that buzz because it takes you a long long way. Always handy when stuff isn't going so well.
Maybe going for MLM Traffic Formula wasn't such a bright idea but you know what? It was a brilliant idea because you stuck at it and you made it work. Yes, you could have ranked quicker for a less competitive term, but sometimes being dumb pays off! You don't know enough to get scared so you just go for it. Worth a lot in my book.

Congrats!
TerriJo,
Super work! Yes, I do understand how hard it is to be noticed by google. I'm working with the same coach (wink, wink), and he is great. I'm a bit behind you, as I got a later start, but watch out...here I come.
I agree, it takes some adjusting of our content. I'm pouring the foundation of my content as we speak, and slowly, going back over each piece and analyzing my key words and anchor text. It really is a fun pursuit.
By the way, I enjoyed the Squidoo Lens on MLM Traffic Formula. I recently picked up the course, so when I dive into it head first, I'd love to talk to you about it in further depth.
Keep up the great work.
