3 Reasons You Need a Personal Website

Every day, you and I are bombarded with over 3,000 marketing messages.  It is confusing, aggravating and can create havoc with your goal to be successful.  How do you differentiate yourself and elevate your online reputation?

One of the key ways to elevate your online reputation and differentiate from the noisy and crowded marketplace is to create your own personal website.  There are three reasons for this:

  1. It builds credibility.  A personal website in your own name — www.YourName.com — provides credibility to the message you are delivering to your prospects and/or your potential employers.  It lets them know you are serious about your business and your future.  It also lets them know that you clearly understand what you’re talking about.  And, lastly, if you create it in a way that enables it to be educational by providing value add content, it lets people know that you are a valuable resource as well.
  2. It helps you maintain relationships.  By creating a website that incorporates video content, a blog, links to your e-newsletter, etc., makes your website more personal and relational.  It enables you to connect with prospects in a more creative way.
  3. It can generate leads.  Provide free downloadable content and you can actually create a way to generate leads for your business.  Whether it’s a case study or a webinar, prospects can download the free content by providing their name and email address.  As a result, the prospect gets free information and you receive their contact information for future relationship development.

Why do you need a personal website?  You need one to build credibility, develop relationships and generate leads.  Most of all, you need a personal website to raise your online presence and elevate your name for others to find.  You will be very happy with the results!

A warning about personal websites.

The reasons listed above are perfectly legitimate and definitely the right way to go.
However you must be careful not to copy other peoples work too closely you must stamp your own personality on the site.
If you copy others too closely your site will look at bit artificial and not work as well.
Another point is not to plaster too much advertising on the site, just plenty of good quality information.
