Happy Healthy 2012
Happy New Years! Is one of your New Year’s Resolutions to maintain or lose weight? To live a healthier lifestyle? Lots of people start out the new year with great intentions to live healthier. I ran across this quote the other day and I absolutely loved it! “No matter how slow you go, you are still lapping everybody on the couch!” This is so true! I’m going to be bringing you lots of great information to help you on your journey to a healthier YOU!
Some things to remember on your journey….
Get Moving. You may not be able to start off at 2 miles. Maybe you can only make it down the block. Start there and gradually add another block. Do arm circles or leg lifts while you are watching tv. Stretch while you are cooking dinner. The more you get moving the more energy you will start having.
Eat in moderation. Don’t try to give up all the “bad” food at once. Just start cutting back and adding in healthier options. If you have 12 cookies before bedtime cut back to 9. If you find yourself snacking a lot, eat a meal. I absolutely love Dr. Pepper and sweet tea. And when I say sweet tea, I mean sweet, sweet tea! Liquid Sugar!! So, instead of running to the gas station for a 32 ounce soda, I go for the can. Instead of sweet tea, I ask for half sweet and half unsweet. Take one step at a time to your goals.
Water, Water, Water. Our bodies are made up of water. Water flushes toxins and such out. Take your body weight and cut it in half. That is the least amount of water you need to be drinking. (ex. If you weigh 140 lbs, you should be drinking at least 70 ounces of water a day). Stay hydrated during work outs. Your urine should be clear or a pale yellow. If it’s dark yellow, you should get some water in you.
Breakfast really is the most important meal of the day! Breakfast jump starts your metabolism. Starving yourself backfires. Your body thinks that it needs to store up food because it doesn’t know when it will be fed again. When we eat breakfast, it signals to our body that we are awake and ready to start our day. It kick starts our metabolism.
Our bodies needs 1800-2000 calories to function. Our bodies need calories to function properly. It needs good calories, not empty calories from junk food. Some “diets” limit your calorie intake to less than this. This can be very detrimental to your body’s functioning. The trick is not to limit your intake, it is to get out and exercise enough to burn the extra calories you are taking in. Our bodies are made to move!
Most importantly, don’t procrastinate. Do something every day toward your goal.
See ya soon!
