Picking The Right Domain For Your MLM Blog
Choosing a domain name for your blog is vital and probably the # 1 mistake people make when launching a blog. In fact, “A-List” blogger, Seth Godin said that his domain URL is the one thing that he would change if he could start all over blogging today.
Having your own blog is like having your own piece of real estate on the Internet and you want your real estate to be found when people search for you.
One of the main goals with blogging to get your name out there as a trusted adviser and recognized leader, so the natural place to start is your name.
My blog has a landing page set up at TyTribble.com and my blog set up at TyTribble.com/blog The main reason to use your name as your blog domain is that your name won’t change!
Let’s say for example your are crazy excited about a new company called (I’m making this up) FooFoo*. FooFoo sells this new kind of irresistible cologne and perfume line.
So you register: ILoveFooFoo.com
Then about 3 weeks into your FooFoo business, you find out that the company is using illegal Oompa Loompas to harvest the special herb for FooFoo and the company is shut down. Now what are you going to do with your ILoveFooFoo.com site and domain? You just lost a bunch of time and money when FooFoo went under and you also lost the hard work that you spent blogging FooFoo.
Or you could have registered BernieHumboldt.com (another fake name I made up) and then add your FooFoo business as a page on your blog so that people can easily find it and search engines see exactly what the page is about: BernieHumboldt.com/FooFoo would be the page for your FooFoo business.
So, in summary, register your name or something as close to your name as possible for your blog domain.

* FooFoo is a made up company name and no Oompa Loompas were really harmed. = )

You are right
For branding purposes, you are absolutely right. What I tend to do is build different verticals as satellites that point back to my website...that way if something goes wrong, I don't have egg on my face.
Plus, satellite sites are just good for not only exclusively promoting products but are smart SEO wise and give others more ways to reach you....good post man...I think I saw a similar question in the forums.
Great Words of Wisdom
I totally agree for the you inc. model
It has to start out with you building your online presence and giving
value to people looking for solutions
Then once you have the traffic, you can start branching off
Thank you for your contribution to the internet netwrok marketing
community
Wishing you all the success, Jeff Faldalen
Looking for suggestions on this topic?
Hey Ty,
I have a squarespace blog named "OnlineHomeBusinessSchool" and I'm now going to start a another blog with wordpress (Heard it is the best way to go) using the same topic. My personal company that I started is Define Your Lifestyle and my logo has an icon of a globe with "DYL" on it, so I'm really trying to brand my name with "DYL" icon. I was thinking of naming my new blog "DYL Entrepreneur Institute" My thinking is that all of my future branches of my company I could use the DYL icon (i.e. DYL Marketing, DYL Coaching, etc.) Do you think that would be a good idea or would using JasonBartels.com be better?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions!
