Using Social Networking Sites Effectively

Social networking sites are free to join and provide you with lots of resources for business building such as blogs, forums, groups, events, discussion boards, free classifieds, press releases, etc.  Not all social networking sites provide the above-named resources, but most provide forums, groups, and some type of ad placement service. 

Developing your profile when you first join a community is key.  It should have a personal picture, list interests/hobbies, a brief description of your opportunity (not a sales letter),and a way for the reader to contact you regarding your opportunity.

There are three resources that every networker should utilize:

1.  Blogs

2.  Forums

3.  Groups

Blogs are websites where entries are made in journal style and displayed in a reverse chronological order.  You can choose the topic of your blog.  

Forums are discussions around specific topics. 

The basic building block of a networking community is your friends list.  Create a forum or blog and then notify all your friends of its creation.  If they choose to join your forum or subscribe to your blog, they will be informed of any new posts or new discussions within your forum directly to their email.  If you always have good informative topics, you can quickly establish yourself as an expert in your field and people will be coming to you for advice and for your products/services!

Groups enable community members to create a shared space within a networking community.  Groups can have discussions, post videos, mass mail group members, and a variety of other options. 

After joining a social networking community, consistently add other networkers to your friends list and create informative blogs, forums, and groups.
