If you’re a MLM entrepreneur, you know that one of the most critical parts of your business is getting your opportunity in front of lots of prospects. MLM Prospecting for most new affiliates is not easy. In fact, most MLM affiliates never learn to be good at it and that is why the success rate in the network marketing industry is so low. With so many people failing in this industry it is understandable that so many people have such a negative opinions of MLM businesses.

Your success in network marketing is dependent on being able to find a constant stream of quality prospects to present your opportunity to. The top earners in the industry have figured out how to do this but unfortunately the great majority of MLM distributors have not.

So, what is the secret to MLM prospecting?

Let me begin by telling you what successful MLM prospecting is not. It is not making a list of all your friends, relatives and acquaintances. It is not going to the local mall to hand out fliers. It is not walking through parking lots and putting business cards on windshields. It is not cold calling purchased leads.

The most successful MLM entrepreneur’s, those making more than $20,000 per month, understand that successful prospecting revolves around building relationships. If you can first develop the trust and faith of your prospects then it is much easier to get them to take a serious look at your opportunity. That relationship building can take place online or in face to face meetings.

The best place to build this trust is in social networks. Social networks are about making friends and helping each other. There are online networks such as Facebook, MySpace, Twitter and Forums and there are business networking groups in your community and around the country that you can attend.

The key is to go into these networking circles and not try to sell your product. Instead, you should sell yourself by positioning yourself as a leader, giving away free advice and just making friends.

As you make friends, some will want to know more about what you do for a living. Those that are interested in your business will ask or, if online, may just click through to some of your other websites to learn more. This process of selling yourself, building relationships, and attracting others to you is called attraction marketing.

For those who can not easily get away from the home often, such as stay home mom’s or people with disabilities, the online networking rout can be very appealing. For those with a fear of technology, the face to face networking approach might be less intimidating.

For the majority of top MLM entrepreneurs, it is some combination of both. Remember, the key is in building relationships and making friends. Nobody wants to be sold.
