Is it a numbers game? Really?

That’s what I’ve been told. But the last time I looked in the mirror I saw a real human looking back at me. I’m a person not a number. And I’m sure if you are reading this than you are human too and not a number. We are living breathing people with real feelings and emotions.

You may be thinking that this is a silly statement and everyone one in network marketing knows that this is a sales business and it is a numbers game.

You know what I mean…

“The more no’s I get, the closer I am to the yes!”

This is ridiculous! I mean hello!! If it was painful the first time you got hung up why do you think it will hurt less the next time?

Stop calling prospects and pitching your business opportunity. Instead, be a mentor with a servant’s heart and focus on helping others. Put out some good helpful information and focus on helping others without a hidden agenda. When you do this, people will start to call you and ask you about your opportunity.

You see MLM is not a sales business. It is a relationship business. People don’t join companies or products, they join people.

Be a mentor with a servant’s heart.

Being a mentor

Spoken liked a true leader. And in order to lead you must first follow. That's how we all got here in the first place with Mike Dillard. He says in magnetic sponsoring people follow people not products. Because there is emotions that we do let get in the way, and sometimes holds us back.So stop and wake up we are human, like you said Wendy, hats off to you for saying so. Reach out your hand and help someone. The universe will take care of the rest.

Hmm....

I see where you're trying to go with this article. I'm sorry to say but marketing (including network marketing) is a numbers game. Any successful marketer will tell you that.

Case in point: Check out your Magnetic Sponsoring website. The data capture page converts at about 30-33%, the sales page (2-3%). This means in order to get 1 sale a week, you have to drive 50 targeted visitors to your site. (All numbers)

And yes, marketing is about building relationships. The problem network marketers face is that they build relationships based on what the they want, and not what the prospects want.

You can fool yourself into thinking this isn't a numbers game. But until you dig deep and understand that marketing is about numbers, you'll continue to...well...you know :)

Read "Scientific Advertising"...and study Yanik Silver along with dozens of other successful marketers.

I agree Mister XX that when you are looking at tracking results you must watch your statistics. This way you know what works and what doesn't. But what I'm saying is that many people get so wrapped up in the numbers like "I need to talk to 20 prospects today if I want to get X number of distributors" etc. That they make the person that they are talking to feel that they are just a number. But when we focus on simply visiting with someone and finding out how you can help them, we get better results. People want to feel like we are talking to them because we care about them, rather than want to sell them something. And you are right, you do need to focus on the prospects wants!

BIG :-)...

You GO Girl ;) I getcha LOUD and Clear...!

Blah, blah, blah for the #'s... It's people who make life meaningful (as Barbara says ;) and I would rather take longer building my business, one genuine relationship at a time, than entice a "massive growth spurt" of unknowns; specifically because of the fact that my most recent venture is all about personal development and a community of like-minded, supportive members, all seeking to help each other grow and stretch and reach for the highest in themselves!

Yes, Mr.X has a "monetary" and statistical point, but so do graphs and charts. They're there to point out "relative" facts - they do not and cannot address the Human Element. He would benefit from watching that commercial many times over and partaking of my personal development opportunity - it picks up where "The Secret" left off and teaches you step-by-step exactly how to apply the Law of Attraction in your life and at the same time, presents you with a deepening understanding of and connection with yourself and everyone and everything around you... :)

Keep speaking your heart Wendy - It will NEVER mislead you... :)

To Wendy...

Thank you for understanding my point. Some people have NO business being in business.

Tony S — Fri, 04/18/2008 - 12:55pm

To Debbie...

Ahh...the ol' relationship marketing mumbo-jumbo. What you're adovcating is the making a list, '3 who gets 3' mentality. You must've never owned your own business. Network marketing is no different than any other business.

Example: Look at Mike's recent email about TF 101. He knows for a fact that only a select few (stats) will come. So he priced his workshop accordingly.

He then limited it to 100 (or so). This is to get people to take action. Again stats.

Mike understands that marketing is about numbers. Regardless of what you think.

If he thought everyone would come, he'll send the message and say "everyone is welcome. I want all of you to come. Let's join hands and sing. Please come everyone. I'm trying to help everyone."

That's just not being realistic. He's a marketer. He understands the numbers.

You can stay in 'la-la' land if you want, but in order to be successful, you're going to have to come to your senses.

You can't, and won't, help everyone. Only 1-3% of the people you talk to. I'm not saying churn and burn.

Example: if you market weight loss products, build a relationship by helping some who's ALREADY trying to lose weight. So, build a relationship based on you're prospects need and wants, and not yours. And again, it's going to be 1-3% of the population.

To view this, check out your traffic stats for MS course (only if you're marketing it). And look at how they breakdown the percentages. That's because marketing is based on numbers.

I hope this is making sense. If not, then please read Scientific Advertising. Network marketing is no different than any other business or marketing venture.

If you don't believe what I'm saying, then market Magnetic Sponsoring for one month. Give it a try. Look at the stats week, after week.

It doesn't matter how good the info is, how big of heart you have, and how great of a person you are, not everyone will want your help. And it all comes down to statistics. Only a certain few will want your help (travel, candles, supplements, water, voip, etc.)

Well, you're a fiesy little x today...

all I needed to do was read your first sentence and I went straight to the "comment" box ;D Can you spell clueless...?

You must have a lot of time on your hands, or perhaps you're not very fond of women, hmmmmmmmmmmmmm...?

Whatever your issues are, you don't GET what's being said here AT ALL, so why don't you take your stick like a good little x and go fish in another pond...!

Adios...

Ps...I won't be continuing this dialog, so write to your hearts content... I'm sure you'll draw a lot of attention to yourself and it sounds like you really need it... 8)

Debbie Biscieglia — Fri, 04/18/2008 - 6:59pm

Wow...LOL

Wendy, I'm sorry we're hyjacking your comment box :p

Debbie, Debbie, Debbie...

You're pulling a mighty quick trigger there lil' lady. I have too much time on my hands? Not too fond of women? I don't see the relationship between the two...You missed me on that.

Wendy commented and she understood exactly where I was coming from. Unlike you, you missed it...completely.

I'm not gonna bash you or bad mouth you (I might be one of Mike's undercover agents ;) )...I wish you the much success in you business.

Go and mentor you little heart out and impact the world. You're gonna bring alot of joy to people who follow you :)

Tony S — Fri, 04/18/2008 - 7:08pm

Wow it looks like I have created a stir. It just goes to show you how there are so many different ways to look at network marketing. The first way was treating it as a sales business the second treating it as a relationship business without an agenda. For me the 2nd one work the best plus it's funner (is that a word?).

Mr X and Debbie, I respect you both and appreciate the comments. This was quite a debate. I wish you both a blessed day.

Wendy ;)

Guess I am stupid!

The more I read, the more I think I might just be a complete idiot!  (Went to private schools my whole life and graduated with honors from college...but that means nothing IF what most on this site are saying is true!)

I do see the "servant’s heart" ideology; however, it strikes me as somewhat manipulative and possibly even deceitful.  I can tell by the number of people who have that mentality that it works and works well, however, my thinking has to be equally as lucrative.  Most will soon see, from my groups, blogs and comments that I believe in being totally and completely up-front, straight forward and to the point.  I don't pretend to want to help others for the sheer fact of helping them.  I want to help them because through that act of help, I prosper and so do they.  I want to get rich, live the life I have always dreamed of, have money flowing in even when I am on the beach.  AND, in order to accomplish that I have to get the support and trust of many, many, many others so that I build my down-line and in doing so they reap the same benefit.  I don't see how I can build trust and connect (truly connect) with someone unless I lay it out on the line, blunt, no fluff, no strings.  I might be proved wrong here very quickly, however, I might just prove that there are a couple ways to go about accomplishing the task that we are ALL attempting to complete. I am going to state exactly what I need and what I am willing to give in order to receive.  I will not hide behind a book, free offer to help others get where they are trying to go or mislead or leave out key parts to my MLM (such as price and commissions). One last statement, (Sorry Wendy, this is a tad bit long), IF all the people on this site can accomplish what they say they can (ie, get leads, increase business performance for everyone, help people's business grow) THEN why aren't they doing just that for themselves?  Logically I would concur that them “helping” others is actual a disguise, because that is the “product” they are marketing.  If - Then Question....hmmm....that's a thinker!!!
