Jay Van Andel and Richard DeVos, as lifelong friends and business partners, founded Amway in 1959 from their homes in Ada, Michigan, as a small company selling a single cleaning product. It is part of a privately held corporation established in 1999 named Alticor. Other divisions of Alticor are Quixtar, Access Business Group and Gurwitch.
