Tupperware Revenue
A year after Tupperware Corporation began selling the product through direct sales in 1946, the company generated approximately $5 million in revenues. In 1950, revenues increased to $25 million per year using the direct sales method. Sales continued to increase, reaching the half billion dollar mark in 1976. By the mid 1980s, competition from Rubbermaid and other companies began affect Tupperware’s revenues. Profits fell to $777 million in 1984 from the previous year’s total of $827 million and then fell again to $762 million in 1983.
Despite making some changes sales continued to be rocky and it wasn’t until the early to mid 1990s that Tupperware began to regain steady footing, reaching $1.4 billion in 1996. Since then, the company has experienced ups and downs in yearly revenue. By 2004 the majority of the company’s income was generated by overseas operations, and Tupperware Brands ended that year with $2.6 billion in sales. As of February 2010, the company’s annual revenue is approximately $2.1 billion worldwide.
