Coming from solid offline Sales & Marketing background over 10 years, after quietly observing, networking, learning and implementing for last 18 months or so online, I think it is about time to speak up! I sincerely hope you can take it to the heart, use what I am about to share to exam where you are, I trust it will save you some serious headache, time, and money when it comes to online marketing for your business! Here we go:

Number 1: "I wanna be Mr./Ms. Gurus, too." It is all good to learn all the technique from established leaders, however, YOU are the one will be attracting YOUR audience, not others. So, invest whatever you desire to develop and sharpen your skill sets, but make the decision to be YOU!

Number 2: "Busy with puzzles prices, never saw the box of the puzzles." Have you ever assembled puzzles? What happened when you even didn't look at the box of the puzzles, and just dig into the pieces and try to assemble them together? Sound simple, right? Unfortunately the majority of people when they start online marketing, that is exactly what they do! They would follow around all the "hottest" tools, systems, leadership styles..etc but look at once the whole picture of their business, what they exactly would like to achieve.

Number 3: "What exactly do you want to say?" A common mistake, many entrepreneurs spend much of their resources in setting up structure, online presence without plan ahead what they want to be known for so to speak. It ends up their content is NOT congruent, their audience is confused, the result? No Conversion.

Number 4: "All Directions = No Direction" Have you ever got lost, and you asked 2-3 people for directions? What happened if these people told you the different answer? You still get nowhere, right? It is funny to see many new online marketers are suffering the same symptoms! They follow many leaders, and they are pointed to all different kind of directions, before they know it, time, energy, money has gone, but their business has gone nowhere.

Number 5: "Sunk into social media dead sea" We all know social media is one of the greatest way to build up your platform, drive traffic for your business, but if you don't have pre-set goals: what exactly you'd like to achieve by using it, you will easily waste the most pricy commodity--"TIME" daily, can you afford it?!

Number 6: "Addicted to buyer rush, the ratio of Learning v.s. Implementing" We all like "shopping", don't we? Especially there are many gurus are doing amazing work to get us sell to ourselves. I am all about Personal Development, it is essential! However, I have seen people almost using "products-purchasing" as a way to escape the reality. They thought or feel when they buy something, they already done something for their business in a big way. Well, knowledge without application does not manifest in power, nor result.

Number 7: "Still believe you can mange TIME?" I will confess myself here, I made the same mistake, and I am continuously learning it. Look, God is pretty fair, there are 24 hours a day, not more, not less. We really cannot do much about it, but we might be able to think about managing ourselves instead of time. So we don't keep upon frustrate ourselves with this ever-losing battle, don;t you think so?

Number 8: The disease of "I can do all things"…. Let's face it, as entrepreneurs, to get our business off the ground, we try to do EVERYTHING ourselves. However, remember we just talked about useless "TIME MANAGEMENT" as above? As your business grows, the "to-do" list will only get longer, "time" will still remain the same, 24 hours/day, 7 days/week! If you still insist sending time and efforts on those tasks you are not good at it, you will end up non-productive and draining all your energy. Whew, that was quite a list! Interestingly, upon many consolations with my clients, I found out there is one major root issue or factor (depend how you look at it) to cause the above common mistakes: lacking the effort in refining your BRAND! Many people take "branding" too lightly, they thought if they just mimic and brand themselves like "me too" products of any other gurus, they shall do good. In the reality, not so. In the end you are the ONE will attract your audience, not others. If you just copy others, you will be "buried" in to the sea of "followers", when you allow "yourself" to align with all your marketing efforts in business, then you stand a strong chance to thrive above!

I am also having a training on principles in the coming days and I'll be speaking about branding. I think it is the hardest concept to grasp.

For me, my brand is summarized into a few simple words. Quality, integrity and longevity.

Definitely To The Point

You hit the nail on the head with this presentation. As a newbie online marketer, I fit about 50% of the categories you just outlined:-( I'm glad to be able to identify the path and alter my course for a more successful pathway. Thanks. Yetta

Yetta Roy — Fri, 09/03/2010 - 12:17pm

I am honored!

Hey Chad,
You almost made me cry by commenting "Definitely sharing this with my new team members.". You know when I told some people I'd like to be the voice of clarity in the industry, especially for newbises, becasue we were all newbies at one time, so much pain...they just laughed at me and told me that will not be popular...

Your words are the confirmation and huge encouragement for me! Thank you!

Kelly

Takes one to know one :)

Kelly! Fabulous video with lots of great nuggets. Every leader I know has made some of these (if not all) mistakes at one point in their career. The more times we fall and get back up... the better we become!

True story

As a newbie myself I fully understand everything you have said, and am trying to keep everything in perspective and pointed in the right direction. I have always believed in taking your time and letting things fall into place, whilst doing all you can to help that happen.Keep up the good work. Barry McCraw.

All Confusion, No Conversion

Kelly,

What a great post! I particularly like Number 3 about knowing what you want to say and then planning it. You're so right that it all comes off as confusing and results in no conversion when we don't plan. I think if we know what our WHY is, and structure our plan around that, then we'll be able see our efforts convert to results.

Eunice Coughlin — Fri, 09/03/2010 - 6:57pm

Thank you for commenting!

Eunice,
Thank you very much for stopping by and you are exactly right, we don't plan to fail, but fail to plan. :)
Appreciate your comments!

Thanks For The Information!

Thanks Kelly. Your material is quite informative. I am working on my USP as I learn about this marketing method. I liked everything you said on your post. I may have to repeat this again to get all the information. Thanks again.

Mario Sanders — Sat, 09/04/2010 - 11:13am

This is a great post Kelly!

I am one of those I will....until! folks.
I have found that I've learned these points
the hard way...by not quitting on myself.
This post would not have made sense 2 years ago
to me but now after working very hard and still not
where I will be I've found this branding YouINC.
quite challenging to put together but worth
it more each month.
Posts like this have helped very much.
Thanks Keyyl for leading.

You are on the way to succeed!

Hey Nicholas,
Well said!!! It requires determination and hard work!
The concept of You-Inc sounds great and works great if we truly understand how we can set ourselves apart from the fellow representatives from the same company or other companies. The market is big enough for everyone...every individual can tap into their own strength, and not try to be "me too" type of leaders will be attractive and refreshing!
Thank you so much for stopping by and sharing your thoughts with us.

Great Information Kelly

Thank you so very much for this list. Sometimes there is so much information that comes at us it is hard to figure what should come first, so we try to do it all.

Your list gives me a way to go back and answer questions about what I am trying to accomplish.
