Could anyone help me?

Postby Adrien Thomas on Thu Feb 05, 2009 9:30 am

Hi all, I have just started an online business and I am very concerned about security and what kinds of rules should I pay attention to, for my business. My friend had told me a few days ago about business theft, so I would also like to know about this in a much detailed way. Could anyone help me in my matter?

Thanks!

I worry about identity theft every time I am asked to put in my home address and phone number and lots of other details.
It seems you have to be prepared to take that risk.
So far - so good.....but I sure check my credit card statements carefully!!

Don't ever give out your credit card number on a website that starts with http://
It must be https:// for it to be a secures site.

Other than that just be careful and trust your instincts.

What an odd website. It looks like several Squidoo lenses thrown together, and I can't quite figure out the objective of it all. Is this supposed to be a business, or just an information page supported by Adsense?
Sorry folks, I'm trying to close this account.

Hello
First off Identity theft is not just credit card related that is only about 28% of it. No matter what you do your information is out there on public files and the majority of it is coming from the government, states, and companies losing your personal information. The best way to make sure your business is protected is create an LLC or what fits your business needs. Have a service that not only monitors your credit but will restore your identity when someone steals it and have access to attorneys. Please describe what type of things in detail are you worried about i might be able to help you get over your worries.

I used to work at a background screening agency. Something I learned there was that if your identity is stolen, you're not liable for the damages. So all that jazz about "you're protected up to some random amount of money if anything happens" is pretty much useless. Protecting your identity before it gets stolen is what is really useful. In general, monitoring your credit is the best way to keep track. If you see anything suspicious, look into it. If it turns out to be fraud, report it, get your numbers changed and have the company reverse that charge. Technology is a wonderful thing and has allowed the authorities to catch a crook in the act many times. But if you don't act, you won't see anything fixed.

Hi Adrien,

Start with the basics and install security software on your PC. Two popular and good security software providers are Norton and Mcafee. Their prices are also reasonable. For more information you can click on the following links:

http://us.mcafee.com
http://symantec.com (Norton)

Hope this helps and all the best with your endeavors!
