*** CraigsList Help and Tutorial ***

Postby Ronny Abraham on Mon Sep 15, 2008 12:04 pm

Hi,

I see there are a lot of people here with questions about Craigslist. There needs to be a thread giving help and tutorials for CL...thought I would start one. BOAB does a good job of discussing the basics, but there definitely needs to be a thread for help and guidance. I will list some tips now and then and anyone is free to ask any question and even put in some of their tips.

Tip of the Day:

What cities to post in?

No matter how you post, one ad at a time or in bulk..you need to know what cities to post in. You want to ideally post in the cities getting the most traffic. Don't guess..you will be surprised which ones get the most. There are two ways to figure out which cities to post in:

Method 1

1. Go to http://www.craigslist.org
2. Look under "us cities" (these get the most traffic...the same works for intl. cities)
Image
3. Post only in these. (unless you're selling something local of course)

Method 2

1. Go to http://www.alexa.com
2. Type in http://www.craigslist.org in the "Search" box and choose "site ranking" from the pull down menu
and Click Go
3. Here you will see all the traffic details.
4. Go to the bottom and look at where it says "Where people go on Craigslist.org"
5. These are the top traffic cities.

There you go...post for the most traffic!!

Thanks for the response.

"How to post in Bulk" without getting flagged:

First of all, I would like to say posting in bulk is very time consuming without the proper autoposting software. It is a must if you post in bulk. I use an amazing software that saves you tons of time and makes you a lot of money while doing it.

With that said, to avoid getting flagged while bulk posting (manually or autoposting):

1. Have a different title for each post. You can even include punctuation or numbers to do this.
2. Different description for each post (HTML images work the best)
3. If your ad has an URL, CL will block it after 15-20 posts. Use different urls/domains.
4. Different email addresses for each post that forward to one email. I believe each email
address can be used to post 15-20 ads. Get unlimited emails from gmail.com.
5. Change IP addresses after 15-20 posts (dial up or DSL works well as IP changes with every log on). You can also buy proxies, but it is hard to find a reliable source.

I know these are many factors to deal with, but that's what you need to be aware of to post effectively. All these tasks can be done efficiently with autoposting software. My software rotates 100+ titles, 50+ images using 50+ domains, makes up random emails if you have domains or you can plug in gmail addresses that are rotated with each post, and I change my IP address (DSL) after each campaign.

Hope this helps.

CL Tip:

Titles need to grab attention, otherwise no one will click on them:

1. How to..., Discover, and other benefits to buyer work well.
2. Titles with images get clicked more. Would you buy a sofa
w/o a pic or even bother to look at the post? Same with anything
you are selling...people like pics!
3. Use punctuation to set titles apart.
Eg. >>> Move in the right direction with
Magnetic Sponsoring!

Some great tips there. Thanks for sharing. I just have a question.

How do you put an image in the advert instead of putting text. I heard that it can recieve a better response and want to try it out and see.

Is it the same as just going to a hosting image page, upload and paste the link? Thanks and hope to see some more of your tips. :D

Thanks.

Images are put up using HTML code.

For example,

<A href="http://www.tuyuk.lpra3wealth.com"><IMG src="http://www.tuyuk.lpra3wealth.com/adpic34.JPG"></A>

The first half is the destination link (http://www.tuyuk.lpra3wealth.com), the second
half (http://www.tuyuk.lpra3wealth.com/adpic34.JPG) is where the image is hosted.

Post this on the description part of the ad and see what you get (:

Great Information!

Craig's List has become more and more difficult to list. You no longer can do multiple listings. To get an account with Craigs List you need to have a landline phone or cell to start. You can however post every 2 to 3 times a day or every 48hours. If multiple listings are done, you will be banned from Craig's forever.

Here are some tips for listing:

* Use lengthy URL's (Craig's Like this) tiny URL's aren't as effective
* Key words are always a plus (Captivate your reader) "Now is the Time"
* Make sure that you post in the right catagory
* Don't use all caps in your Title
* Compare your Titles to others that got your attention to "Click" for content
* Always Check to make sure that you're listed by checking in 15 to 30min after posting

Good Luck!

Thanks mrgriggs. That was helpful.

I was wondering, how do you track your links on Craiglist? Which method or tool on the net you think to use please. Be great to hear what you use. Thanks.

Hi!

To the "thedarkroom". I have found a site that might be just right for you! But I havn't used it myself. A business partner and I stumble across this site by acciedent and listened in on a pre-recorded message by two sister's from OHIO that used the program for their MLM Business and got multipule listings in verious cities in less than 5mins. There's more...they not only got responses from their ads, but had a lot of leads and sign-ups in their primary business. If you would like to get more information about this program go to www.craygo.com This has absolutly nothing to do with my current business nor am I a affiliate of this program. If you are unable to log on, let me know and I will help you.

I hope that you will enjoy it as I did when I took a look at this program, and remember "they're all types of programs out there that are geared towards fill their pockets and not yours!"

I hope that his make sence, and that I could help you! ;)

Good Luck Fellow Networker!
