Copywriting is the #1 money making skill that has been around sense the age of the dinausaurs. If you can become a good copywriter, you can sell meat to a vegetarian. A couple of years ago after I was laid off from my job, I was desparate for money. The only things I had of value at that time was Camtasia Studio, an internet connection, a library card, and lots and lots of time.
I decided I was going to learn how to copywrite. I spent all my time reading books by Joe Sugarman, Jay Abraham and Studying good sales websites written by Yanik Silver and Frank Kern. Using these skills I was able create a product and create my own website using my own newly found copywriting skills and I successfully sold hundreds of the product. Not only did I sell but all my customers were 110% satisfied with their purchases. Here are just a few tips to help you. Copywriting Strategy #1 - Understand the difference between value and bennefit. Most people know the difference between feature and benefit, but when it comes to value and benefit, most people get confused. As Joseph Sugarman taught me, people buy with emotion and justify benefit. If any of these tips would be considered most important, it would be this one. If you can't properly display value and benefit, you're going to bore your readers and their going to click the back button. However, if you can do a superb job of displaying value and benefit, you will create the URGENCY to buy. Here's an example of value and benefit.
Lets pretend you decide to buy a alternative energy vehicle. You justify your purchae by saying it's cleaner for the environment and perhaps it gets more miles for less money. Althugh these all logically sound like good reasons, the true reason you wanted to buy that car is because you wanted to be green. You wanted to have a smaller foot-print on the envoromment.
Copywriting Strategy #2 - Use energetic words. Copywriting should be engaging and the reader should feel as though they're watching the best HD superbowl game of their lives by reading your article. Add energy to your articles by substituting simple words with energetic words. An example would be instead of saying "grow" say "burst forth". Instead of saying "reveal" say "pull back the courtains".
Copywriting Strategy #3 - Provide more value for what you're selling. One of the methods I use is to add additional bonuses.This works extremely well when you're selling digital products because you create the items once and don't have to pay shipping costs send to your customers. Another way of doing this is by evaluating your product thoroughly and queezing every value and benefit you can out of the product. The technique I used was to announce the dollar value and why it's valued at that price to all the products and bonuses being offered.
Copywriting Strategy #4 - Stand behind your product. This is expecialy useful in this economy and when selling products that prospects can't see touch or feel. Create a product that you truly believe in and create a guarantee to prove it. Most people don't ask for refunds even if the product is crappy. Of course there are a few that do, and if they do, refund them so that you don't develope a bad reputationfor yourself.

What an Excellent post you have made here, its nice to see someone actually acknowledge that CW is a skill that WE all need.As you rightly point out, CW has been around in one form or another for years and ONCE learned you can EFFECTIVLEY write your own paycheck ( OR cheque as we say in the UK!!

Good post. Some of the techniques I heard before. What I thought was interesting is your talking about benefits vs features. I am in the process of learning how to copy write. What books specifically would you recommend I read to get me up to speed. I just know the bare fundamental, write a headline and sell the benefits.
