That trick about setting up a google alert always comes in handy. I got that from Daegan as well.

Writing copy is easy, we all do it DAILY in one form or another, just by the way we speak...

When I started out I was HOPELESS, then studied a few good people & slowly started implementing their 'work' OR style in with mine and it was a Natural Evolution as it were!...

The Copywriters Guild is good, or any of the TOP people aer good examples to Follow.

Personally, I think Copywriting is the ONE skill ALL marketers need to Learn!!.. Without it, there is NO list, prospects OR cash!! :D

I'm still reading some of the posts here. This is really helpful for me. And it's confirming to learn it's mostly in the relationship with the prospects. Of course the value of the offer is important, indeed.

Copywriting, like all writing is more about re-writing than anything else.

Your first draft will never be your final draft even if you're the best copywriter in the world.

Write it. Come back a day later and read it again. You'll find stuff you don't like or think
you can do better.

Keep doing this until your sure it works. Then let some friends or prospective buyers
read it. Get feedback.

Make sure your copy addresses every possible question and concern your prospect has.

Make it sound honest and real as possible. If it sounds too good to be true it probably
is, so if it sounds that way, explain why. But be honest. Don't say, I'm selling this
widget for only $50 because I know what it's like to struggle and blah, blah, blah.

Don't say, next time you visit the price will be 3 times as high unless it's true.

Give enough reasons for your prospect to take action and make it 100% risk-free.

I don't think copywriting is easy, but maybe it gets easier the more you do it. If
your success depends on it, then do your absolute best to make it the absolute best
you can.

Great copywriters earn their big paychecks because they work hard at each
project they take on.

I think this thread is great value, some good answers here...

Having Studied Copy fort years, I have found that 'LONG COPY' based on real life events, be they your own OR others usually works VERY well. I have tried this numerous times with STUNNING results, mainly because people relate to it more.

That said, it is AN art form, or Skill. Copy Takes time, GREAT copy can take DAYS, as you peice together your subject and ultimately is worth thousands, to you.

The Copywriters Guild is one of the best Courses I have seen on this subject. If you haven't yet got it, its well worth the Investment.

Right Rob, how about this offer from yours truly. My SEO/SEM services for one year on me to any new member that joins my Zurvita team. How's that for an offer?

I charge $50.00 an hour (which isn't that much considering what most of my competition charges) so do the math. Ok, so I made an offer in this forum, so flog me. :D No links here though so I think I'm pretty much good to go! Anyway...

With all that said, what you've stated Rob has been tought by many a guru for a very very long time probably even before you were born, so no new news here. But good post for a refresher anyway.

NOTE: One of my clients here in Los Angeles (mycoolcell.com and mycoolcell.net) that's a 32yr old millionaire hired me in August O8. He had five employees at the time and a very tiny warehouse of about 800sqft, and as of this writting has 13 employees and from the horses mouth (i.e. the owner) grossed 8 million last year. So I think his hiring me to do his SEO/SEM was a wise choice considering all his business comes through his websites.

Not to try to impress you Rob, (then again, maybe I am) but to impress upon you that I can get the job done and get results for serious business people looking for a great ROI. So there you go, I report and you decide.

Rob:

I have only one thing to say: Your value is your persuasion. However, it only works after the fact. To get people to notice your value, you'll need to practice on your copy. You don't have to be great, just practice, (and test), and you'll get better. That way, more people will see your value.

Good Luck.

Wow! Some awesome information here including a couple of good sources to study toowhich is always a good thing. I came across a formula by Mike Dillard the other day and thought I would post it here as it might help. I haven't tried it yet so can't say for sure whether it works or not but here goes. It's also taken directly from my notes so it's very very rough.
The five part formula.
1. Make Your advertising itself valuable. Give away training
2. Identify and name their urgent problem.
3. Solve their urgent problem with a unique promise. If you hate calling friends and family show them how magnetic sponsoring solves that
4. Proove you can solve their problem with unquestionable proof. 3rd party testimonials.
5. Make your offer impossible to refuse with a user friendly proposition. A money-back guarantee for example.

Point 4 is something that was listed in Courtney's most recent article which, by the way, was awesome!

Another point Courtney made was that you had to be passionate about what you were writing about. This totally relates to my feelings regarding promoting anything. I know we've all got to earn a living but sending out some sales copy about a product you have never used just seems wrong to me. If I promote something it's because I truly feel that it is a phenomenal product and one which has enhanced my business practices or results.
