That could be very interesting. I think they should test it and see what kind of feedback there is. It would make connectiong with people more effective, that is if it is used in the right way.

I vote YES for BN Chat! Look how effective it is on Facebook and if people are having issues with something, they can get an IMMEDIATE answer from someone.

I think that having a chat feature on BN is a terrible idea. I already spend way too much time hanging out on this site! Just kidding. I think it would be nice to have chat feature but probably only if it was set up similar to the FaceBook chat feature. On FaceBook I believe that you have to have friended someone before they can start sending you chat messages. FaceBook does this to cut down on unwanted conversations.

If a BN chat was set up that someone could only initiate a chat after you had a connection with them that would be cool .

I was pondering this the other day because I get so many messages and sometimes it would be great to just start a chat window with the person who sent the message to answer their question in real time... of course a phone call does the same thing. But I get totally distracted on the phone. When I'm on the phone - I'm on the phone. With chat, I can be building a site, listening to music, talking to my wife and eating breakfast, all at the same time and being way more productive. It's that damn HDADD thing!

Plus, sometimes you're on the forum and need to say something but don't really want to bust out in the forum or send a PM... chat would be way easier.

And of course there's the whole social component. I think it would be blast!


As for spam, etc.... the real issue is that this site is in serious need of active moderators.
No one needs to be policed, but having a few trusted members to boot obvious spammers and work on banning IPs from blatant offenders would clean this joint up in no time.

Anyway - that's just my thoughts.
I'm glad to hear there's more geeks like me out there... FTW!

I enjoy the chat feature set up on FB and agree with Timothy as far as a control feature. Only friends/associates you have approved can chat with you. Let's add another feature to kick people off the island for puking on us and blatantly disregarding how the BN community operates...just like a google slap...shut them down and no re-entry

Hey guys, we actually had chat available about two years ago in the previous version of this site and two big problems arose...

1: Hardly anyone actually used it.

2: People continually abused it by showing up and spamming their links. Moderators are impractical for all the chat rooms, and the spammers ultimately ruin the experience.

If you have any ideas other than moderation about problem #2, I'm all ears.
