Enough of the rhetoric, already!

Postby Chris Tryon on Tue Mar 16, 2010 6:16 pm

I have been perusing the latest discussions and it appears that everybody is saying the EXACT same things about how to be successful in network marketing.

1. Define your why. What EXACTLY does that mean to you? HOW do you explain this concept to your prospects? I know of one guru who is burned out with this and is TOTALLY changing the way I think about this concept with his latest training. He explains how Magnetic Sponsoring works when it is done correctly. I am only half way through his first training.

2. Build relationships. My experience with this is that someone will comment on one of my posts, perhaps send me a private message, (usually with a pitch for their company or product), and then if I don't respond in the affirmative, they simply move on. Is that REALLY how to build a relationship?

3. Develop your own personal brand. Once again, what EXACTLY does that mean and HOW do YOU do it?

4. Post quality/original content. Again, back to the beginning, if everybody is saying the SAME things, how EXACTLY is that being original and offering quality?

Any suggestions?

Hi Chris,

Here are my suggestions and it all goes to how your individuality will shine. That's what will separate you from the masses who are saying the same ole' thing.

1. Define your why - everybody's why is going to be different and some aren't even aware of what it is. They may say they want out of their job. But is that what they are really after. Perhaps it's freedom more than anything. Knowing what your why is will require you to ask yourself a lot of questions until you get to the root of your why. Here's an example, I wanted to quit my job so I started a business. Was that really my why? No, I had to continue to ask myself what it really was. It all came down to spending more time with my family and have the flexibility of working independently.

2. Build relationships - In the online world it's so common to see what you experienced here. The people try (emphasis on try) and make an effort to build a relationship but what they are really after is you buying from them or signing you up with them. Building a relationship online is about getting to learn about one another and provide value they are looking for. It's a process that should be followed, just like it would be if you're making a friend in the real world.

3. Your own brand - what this means is you have something unique about you that separates you from everyone else. Let's say my brand is pure professionalism. If you saw me in person wearing raggedy sweatpants, acting in an abrasive manner all while I'm networking for my next diamond, do you think I'm living up to my brand of being professional? Absolutely not! You would expect to see me dressed to impress and carry professional mannerisms.

4. Posting quality content - Believe it or not I think you provided a good example of how you do this just in your post here. Also, how about the response I'm providing back to you. That's quality right there. So one, you took out the time to take a deeper look into this and take a look at it from a different perspective - good quality there. Two, I'm taking the time to provide you with my quality response - good quality there too. This is what it means to be original in your brand.

I know this is a long winded answer, but believe it or not, you're questions are valid and it's not something someone can easily answer in a few words.

Hope that helps you out.

For many people, the thought of sitting down and generating quality content is daunting.

When they are also faced with the often-tedious chores associated with generating leads on the internet they start looking for shortcuts, the "cut-and-paste" syndrome. This leads to hundreds or thousands of me-too posts, websites, blogs, advertisements etc.

That is exactly why you must be genuine. If you do a large amount of marketing and let the real you show through, you will attract people. If you continue to attract people, you will build a business.

Learn what works then do a lot of it, but stay away from the spammy stuff that (obviously) seems so contrived to you.

I have a different view, Paul.
I think they're all saying the same things because it's all they know.
Even though a lot of it is not true. (mostly because of the way it's presented)

To answer your questions, Chris:

Oooh. Before I forget. I think I read a post just like yours the other day, but the way
you said it sounds so much nicer. :)

1. Why.
This is a worn out old concept. Because the only reason people first get into network marketing
is to make a few extra bucks. Many of the same people that keep harping on the "why" also point
to the hierarchy of values. A quick look at that pyramid will tell you everything you need to know
about how to guide your team. Find out where they are, and speak to them about reaching the
next level.

2. Build Relationships.
What does this mean? I don't really know.
All I know is that if you continue to show people that you can help them get what they want, they
will continue to read your emails and buy your stuff. If they're on your team, they'll stay there, but
only if you are helping them MAKE MONEY. All the other pie in the sky crap means nothing to them
if they can't stand their job and all they want RIGHT NOW is to break free from their old patterns.

3. Your Brand
Completely unnecessary and way overdone. One of the most successful marketers I know does not brand his name, and another one has recently taken his name off of his company.
Just being you creates all the branding you'll need.
Or you can create an online persona for your business.
But it's a business choice, not a set in stone requirement.

4. Good Content
This is pretty self-explanatory, but what's good to me might be crap to you. You'll know if your
content is good by how people react to it.

I guess I didn't answer the questions the way that some might expect. The reason is simple.
I don't believe most of the stuff that the "Me Too!" marketers continue to spew across the
internet is true or will help you build your business.

My model is to help people make money first.
If you can do that, you'll have plenty of time to work up to the higher levels of the
hierarchy of values.
If you don't, you won't keep people around long enough to get there.

That's how the DarkSide rolls.

Hahaha...10/10 Dean!

Dave, you're the MAN - just the way, the style in which you write, is your brand as well...even though you won't admit it!

I always think of a "WHY" as the one thing you will crawl over crushed glass to have, the kind of thing that makes your palms sweat just at the thought of it.

"Money" doesn't quite cut it - it's what money can GET you that is your why, perhaps it's the sexy, hot little lady you have on the side that's your "why", perhaps it's your kid's education, perhaps... fill in the blanks!

Building relationships online is the same as building them offline. In my business that means going the extra mile to deliver service that knocks the spots off my competitor, getting to know my customers, their names, who the husbands & wives are, what does he do for business or profession, what does he do in his spare time etc & then using that information to make him feel welcome every time he walks into my shop.

As for branding - absolutley concur here with Dave - just be YOU, genuinely!

Good content means original content! One way is to tour the forums and see what others are asking about & not getting the same old answers to. Then go & find some original content by doing some constructive research & give them what they are looking for.

Wishing you all an inspired day!

Thanks you for your comments. Paul, I like your comment about the perfect MLM banana bread recipe. It fits. Dave, you will always be an original. I agree with you about the "how you build relationships." Too many people are looking for short cuts. There are NO short cuts to building relationships or businesses for that matter.

No matter what you DO, it is always about WORK. It is also about duplication. I haven't seen any easy ways to build a business.

Without sounding rhetorical, I believe most of us have to find a system that we are comfortable with. Use our own, God-given talents and then put them into ACTION.

Not everybody has the time or writing skills to create blogs. Not everybody is comfortable picking up the phone and making phone calls. Very few of us are talented enough to create quality videos to promote our business.

So, to "cut to the chase" on this one, it IS all about finding our PASSION and then DOING the things that are going to work for us and then teaching these things to the people that we ATTRACT to our business.

Does anybody else have any more suggestions without sounding rhetorical?

Chris,

How about; "work hard and be kind to your mother?"

I too agree with Paul's classy comment! And you know you hit on another important point. We all aren't made to be great this or that. However, the good news is that there are sufficient advertising and marketing avenues available both online and offline that there will always be a method or two that fits with the individual's personality and lifestyle.

The only time this seems to be a major issue is when say a free method is chosen and we expect a paid method results, it often doesn't work that way.

I like to add an extra couple of ingredients into the mix. We also must add a spoon full of persistence and a 1/2 cup of consistency along with a full measure of determination. Mix together and sift through the siv of patience and you have a strong and healthy business structure ready to place into the oven of life :)

I see that the answers herein posted are stuggling with the same problem. For many, in fact, i believe for all, its the same old rhetoric. Everyone has within themselves a certain value instilled within them that enables them to be who they are, their character, some are flawed, some are not, it all depends on who's looking.

If we consistently consentrate on self we become selfish, if we consistently look at others problems or faults we become judgemental in our opinion twards the solution, which in turn, turns them off, causing us to lose them as an equal. We are all created equal. Not one better than the next, your skill's are not your own they belong to me, and in turn, my skill's are not my own they belong to you, reciprocation!

What the issues are can be seriuosly confounding if we look at things with the wrong perspective. Information Overload shared by Mike Dillard is a great way to keep a simple yet focused attitude tward your certain skill set, which is great because the simpler the system the better it will work. But the most important skill has been left out because it is concentrated on building self, not our nieghbor!

In a nuttshell the reason we dont succeed the way we need to is that we are not focusing ALL our efforts in building our neighbor up. Everyone is a Diomond in the Rough and we each have the potencial of greatness within, but the problem is perspective, no one see's greatness in a homeless man or woman walking down the road, they see OMG look at that!!! etc..... which means Negative Perspective. Friends there is potencial all around us, if we are deeply concerned and desireous to make real change in peoples lives then you need to really focus on them and their calling, help them find who they are and polish them to perfection. Once they reach the level of being profitable then teach them to teach others the same principles herein given.
True success is measured by the success of those around you who you helped to succeed.
