I think it is very important to be authentic and genuine. People can pick a phoney from a mile off. Decide who your target audience is and then make sure everything you do is aligned with them in mind. You have to know who they are inside and out if you want them to continue doing business with you. You can only provide them with real value when you fully understand their needs. You can spend a lot of wasted time and money if you don't get this part of your marketing right.

“Who wants to know how to get buyers?”
This is my observance, you can't sell tickets if you do not have an audience; as one power-house marketer, with a 58,000 person list stated just a few days ago. That IS YOUR BUSINESS -- not any product you recommend to them. And it's not any company you are an affiliate for. Social marketing and many other methods are free; but they take a lot of time to build your list. Please do not waste time on MySpace; ther revenue is down 17% this year. Facebook is up 25%. The MySpace demographic shows teenage users, and MySpace is talking about going back to their roots as a music site. Would you like to send an E-mail and get paid? That is still the 2nd highest way to get/maintain buyers.
*The industry average is $1 per sold lead per month; so let's get a big list. Recently a DVD
course, that sold for almost $2,000, was offered for free ($7.95 shipping). That course came with a free 1 month club trial. I own it ! The club is amazing. They take you step-by-step through any type of maketing you want to learn. They have templates you can use use now, ready for your site -- and they take newbies through without your help (or you if you need help). Now all you have to do is order the way to build a list fast CD (the DVD is sold out), and you can use the list building method of many of the pros on betternetworker. I saw them on the sales leader board; it was fun to watch the fight over who was going to win the high-dollar sports car. They each could have bought the sports car -- but we guys are competative. The guys that made the CD/DVD are a riot. They have a lot of fun -- over $20 million in 4 years -- from 0 ! Please call 574.288.3797 or E-mail keithdshrock@gmail.com.

My best advice is: before you totally engage yourself into it try to gather all your resources. Make a research, for instance. it would be best for you if you know what and where do you want to invest. Secondly, you need to have the skill and attitude. Sometime consumers do not look on the product itself. about 50% of what they see/hear is you - how you say it. how you sell it. how you carry it. Its hardwork + dedication + attitude = success.

Re: What is your best advice on Marketing your Business online?
I would begin by Defining your core and getting to the meat of who you are. Once you have that fleshed out (your strengths and weaknesses) begin working on your strengths and build Profiles on all of the social media sites that are large and in charge. EX: Facebook, YouTube, Twitter (a few accts) Delicious, LinkedIn, Digg, Stumbleupon, Reddit. Begin by simply being yourself and connecting with your friends and meeting new people online never selling them or pitching them on a thing. Exist in those Social Networks and build relationships. Go to Niche Specific Networks like This one here if it is beneficial and fits within your core values and your target audience.
It wouldn't make sense to be existing in a Soccer Mom forum and try to sell them MS when all of the forum topics have nothing to do with Network Marketing.
Once you have these down and feel semi-comfortable I would pursue engaging conversations and board topics in groups that are orientated with your product or service and if possible get people on the phone instead of simply driving traffic to your site. Driving traffic does make sales but I've found still getting your prospects on the phone really seals the deal and is one more step in internet relationship goodness.
I use a formula of Personal Branding myself and you can find simply my name "Brian Fanslau" on over 45+ social networks with over 25,000+ pages connected with my name. I focus on adding value and serving instead of spamming for numbers. I focus on developing quality leads instead of 1,000s of unresponsive ones Not to mention since it is Social Media all of the leads are free.

Re: What is your best advice on Marketing your Business online?
Sorry for diverting a couple of lines... and don't what to sound negative ...
I've gone through the replies above and noticed that the majority see the solution in building a strong image on the market. Here I want to relate a little bit> the thing with implementing this concept about Building Your Image, in order to do well in online marketing, is that since this became the ultimate strategy for making money with MLM's, lots and lots and lots... (another one? :-0 ) of online marketers describe themselves as being those competent marketers eager to help you now and here. I simply don't buy into this crap. Unfortunately, it begins to spring to the surface another breed of pitching - and that is : Hy! My name is ... . Please, tell me how can I help you. or maybe let me show you how bla bla bla.
The number 1 representative on Atraction Marketing, (which this concept of Building the You.Inc is built upon) didn't intend, for one second, that all online marketers out there build their own You.Inc by posing in these guru's desperatly wanting to help. Until Atraction Marketing many wanted sell their opportunity, now many want to sell their expertise. exagerating, again...
My best advice? Be honnest. Ask and give advice only when requested for, but first make your homework.excellently

Find a good training program learn all you can about social media marketing, and then try to connect with a mentor you fell comfortable with. This is exactly want I've done, and it's definitely working for me!
Persistence and Determination is a must, training plus action equals success !And above all else don't ever quit.

Make yourself valuable to your customers. Find out what they want and give it to them. Follow this formula in your marketing: 1) Here's what I've got, 2) Here's what it will do for you, 3) Here's how you can get it. That's about as basic as it gets, but it's still true.

Know what you're doing BEFORE you commit money and time to an opp.
Get EDUCATED about the industry, about what works and what doesn't. LEARN how to spot a scam or smell a scheme. If you're in an MLM company, DON"T SELL or CLOSE a deal or you'll have to close 'em again and again month after month. Find a marketing system that is proven to be DUPLICATIBLE and above all NEVER, NEVER, NEVER - did I say NEVER - BUY LEADS!!!!!
Oh, and have fun!!!!!

Like most, I struggled before getting the education & training to learn that all the effort in the world in the wrong company will get you nowhere.
