Actually, I wasn't pitching anything. I really want to know the best advice on marketing an online business. Everyone has had something that may have work from them. I'm still finding mine. That being said, what would your advice be?
As well, if you didn't notice I don't have any links to anything ;)

First I would say that you will need to be sure that you are in the right online business. If it's not about building relationships and putting the needs of those people first and foremost then you're more than likely going not going to cut it. Something very strange happens when you genuinely began to care for the people who become prospects or clients, they become more than just $$ signs. They become family, and family pulls together and take care of their own! Once you've entered this mindset you will begin to see the opportunites pour in, so you will need to be ready!

Organization is key, and is one of the solid beams that you'll need within the foundation. It will also be helpful to have a mentor to help you get started; as well as a mastermind group, with which you will need to help you in 'birthing' the vision. You can't do this alone, so be sure to surround yourself with people you trust and who are trustworthy, as you will need the support to help you. The last two elements, i've already alluded to at the beginning, but I want to be more specific, and that is your WHY for building your business. As I said above it has to be more than about money, and lastly and certainly not least you need the determination and self-discipline to see this through. So before you can give build the mansion, your foundation has to be laid, or it will fall, no matter how spectacular the house is.

The first thing you want to do is find out who your customer is and what exactly is it that they want. Simple, yet overlooked. You then do as much research as you can on your customer and find out what they are looking for and what their language is as they seek for information.
Then you want to focus on building a strong sales funnel before you start marketing, using the information you gathered from your research.
You then focus on driving laser targeted traffic to your sales funnel, and the only way to get laser targeted traffic is through Google AdWords. This is still part of doing research, and once you have your system working, you focus on driving traffic using free methods, such as social networking sites, articles, videos, blogs, podcasts etc.
Last, do the opposite of what the other predators are doing. Instead of selling others on your business, give them the information they are looking for. Is this real? What kind of work will I be doing? Is this right for me?
I make it a point to tell people that this is a business and making money is not guaranteed, and in fact they are likely to lose money... I then tell them about what I did, how I lost money, what I learned and what mistakes they can avoid to successfully market their business online.

Great post btw,

Great question!
I'd like to add that it is extremely helpful if you can clearly identify a big problem that your target market is looking for solutions to, and do your best to provide them with those solutions. I also think that a key is in branding yourself as a valuable resource of useful generic informatio, long before you start marketing your product.

Hi there,

What an open ended question, and there is no singular answer because
marketing is a big world and quite confusing for most.

My first step however before we get to marketing is lets figure
out what we want to market.

Then is there a vibrant (not beat up market) for the product.
Not just another theme on an old story.

Next do we get paid fairly for our efforts? What is our time worth
and will this opportunity pay us enough for our time?

Based on the compensation plan will we have enough time to bring
in enough dough-re-me?

So step by step.
First find something that resonates with you so that during tough times
you are less likely to quit.

Next. Is the market for that product fresh and will it stand up to the litmus test of;
If there was no financial gain attached to selling the product would you or others
buy it at the price it is being offered at..This is BIG!

Final in the short list. Can you make what you want without being a recruiting monster?
That speaks to the compensation plan. Are you going to invest your time for pennies or
chunky money?

Statistically the average person will only recruit 2.7 people in their whole life.
Most of the rest won't recruit even 1! And that's with a system because you still have
to work on yourself and most are just to lazy.

Anyway that's some food for serious thought.

To your success,

Do not pitch your primary program or product upfront. Instead, show your prospects valuable advice, tips which you're applying to your own business. Using a Autoresponder is great, such as Aweber http://aweber.com/?329180 sending them follow-up messages consistantly with training, tips. As time goes on, they will develop enough faith and trust in you and will seriously consider whatever opportunities you're involved in. Of course before Autoresponder, you first need a nice Capture Page, like the one I'm using http://www.168wealth.com

So in summary, show you're a valuable person to your prospects, teaching them "How-to" first, then introduce to them "What" you're involved in.

Happy Marketing:)

Question for you? Where did that stat come from? Hasn't been my experience at all and I'm curious where you learned that.
