I agree completely! This is what I have been preaching for some time now, don't let the hype get you down!

However, with your 4th point - if you've been in an MLM for example for 4 months with little results then it is time to quit.

So true. So many people get sold on the "quick way to make money" only to find out that there is a little work involved. But when you have the right system, the residual earnings are endless...

Hello,

I agree with you. These all are very common mistakes that they do. The very common mistake is Lake of plan and specific goals and also sometimes over confidence.

Well said Kathleen, but excuse me... aren't these 4 applicable to ANY business?

Just proves affiliate marketing is a business like any business, right?

Do you mean quit that MLM or quit altogether?

Mike Dillard was like a million years in this before he made it and I am sure that's not the advice he would give. So I presume you're saying quit that particular MLM... yes? :?:

Very very true, great analysis there.

One other very common mistake is that new affiliate marketers also fail to build a..........

list of subscribers (It's not just good for downline building :) )

Even in affiliate marketing, you should always build some kind of email contact list to market to those people over and over again.

Think about it, speaking strictly as an affiliate, if one of your traffic sources dries up all of a sudden (i.e. google slap) you can still market to your subscriber base and collect commissions while you research and get traffic going from another source.

Good advice. I was one of those people who tried to be an affiliate marketer a couple of years ago. I gave up, I didn't have the right training and understanding of the "job", I just signed up with a lot of companies and kind of thought that would make me money, that's the information I got from the program I bought. I have come a long way since then. I stopped doing anything on the internet for a couple of years, but it was always on my mind, I knew there was money to be made. I'm back again, but with a total different attitude. I know it takes a lot of work, time and patience. I'm trying to learn as much as I can from other peoples mistakes and knowledge. I finally learned it doesn't happen over night, you'll have to stick with it and work hard. I just discovered betternetworker, what a great place to learn and also give other people advice.

Hi Kathleen,

I liked your post on the common mistakes of affiliate marketers. I can really relate to #3 and #4. I have had real challenges with those two areas, especially wondering if I should quit. I do know that quitting will be a definite way to not make any money on the internet. That is not why I got into this to start with. I just have to watch my negative self talk and have more action and positive creative thinking.

One more important point is the power of education and expertise.

As a newbie, you must invest in tailored training. It helps if you have had some related training, but this is a somewaht different turf with its own peculiarities. Investment could be in self education, enrolment in a relevant training program, use of the myriad e-books available and more.

In the course of training, it helps to seek expertise to get more insight. Experts are people who have been through what you are going through and can pass that experience to you. Being a lone ranger or a Mr. Know-it-all will almost always work against you.

Finally as you come across new ideas, try them out somewhere. This is the best learning process.
