New website help

Postby theodore rhoades on Sun Jan 16, 2011 8:23 am

Hey everyone,

So I have a question about how I should go about and promote my website. I will be generally focusing on skincare products for acne. My question is:

should I create a landing page for my website?

Or, should I just have a link going back to a products page?

Anything else I should consider?

Hey Theodore,

How are you planning to drive traffic to your website? SEO for keywords? Pay Per Click? Social media marketing? Other types of advertising?

Your site design depends a lot on your source of traffic?

Yes,

I will be focusing on article marketing, press releases, forums, classifieds, facebook, youtube, using some free blogs sites (if thats a good idea). Possibly some email marketing as well. Would it be a good idea to optimize my page for these keywords, and how would I go about and do this?

I want to focus on cross linking strategies as well. Any other suggestions I should consider?

I suggest having a capture page for your website where you get their contact information in exchange of an ebook or information that will educate them about their biggest problem. Once they give your their information I suggest redirecting your website to the product.

Take a look at the Magnetic Sponsoring capture page and notice the above things I just said. That way you have their contact information and they might buy your product! If they do not buy your product that is OK, you can continue feeding them with value and you might try selling them another related product.

Ok,

I'm a little lost on how to do this, could you help me out? Alright, so I will create a lead capture page where they will enter their information.

From there, they will be redirected to the product. I guess I'm confused on how to do this with an affiliate product. I want to be able to set up more of a store so people have more options to choose from. How would I create a separate capture page going back to my website anyways?

Theodore,

I definitely agree with Daniel's suggestion to create a report or product that answers questions about acne in exchange for their subscription. You should have a landing page that offers info, but one of the website tabs can be a link to your store. Do both.

You could create a youtube channel specifically for your products, called "theultimateacnecure" or something. Answer ten questions about acne, and make a video for each question and do product demos of what you're offering.

A youtube video for product demos could be a good direct-response method of advertising, so instead of saying "for more info, go to this website," say "get this cure today" with a link to your store.

but you'll still want to collect information through other marketing, and then promote those youtube videos in your email marketing...one every other day...with a call to buy...Not everyone is ready to purchase the first time they see your product, which is what email marketing is all about.

cheers,
crystal

Awesome! Thank you Crystal for the information.

Im confused with several things though. So, I have my main website set up with wordpress, however I still need to build up a store and figure that all out.

How would I make a separate landing page instead of having my regular website? What I mean is here is my website http://www.theodorerhoades.com. Would I create a new page?

This is probably confusing you as it is me. I will be going into web development class next week and my teacher may know how to help me out.

If there are any tutorials that would be awesome.

This is certainly a great strategy to implement for your acne business and advice that EVERYONE can use for their own businesses as well. I would just recommend to leave the "cure" part out since that could bring you tons of problems. Great advice Crystal.

Best of luck Theodore!

Theodore, First welcome to BN.

I wanted to give you some advice on your web project. Seems that you are very new to these concepts and therefore, I highly recommend that you don't do anything website wise until you have first learned how to do the basics of Search Optimization.

You will need to completely understand the concepts of keyword research...specifically how to find keywords that are actually being searched for and are capable of driving traffic to your site. Not every keyword is going to get you traffic. Important: Ranking #1 in Google for a keyword that no one is searching for is not going to help you one bit! It essentially boils down to what people are searching for and not what you may think is an ideal keyword.

Another important factor is the competitiveness of the keywords you target. Starting with a brand new site will be difficult to break into the traffic if others have already build and got a good start optimizing for the same keywords you choose. You will need to know how to select some of the lesser competitive keywords and shoot for those first. Just remember to always look at where you would like to see your site say 10 years from now.

Do optimize for the high traffic keywords as you can eventually rank for those, but please realize that it will take time to reach those goals. Work towards them now!

It's not a good idea to just sling a site up without having this information...you will need to build your site to target the keywords that you have determined to be your best options. So be careful that you don't get the cart before the horse!

Once you know what keywords have the best capability to work for you, you need to have a thorough understanding of how to build backlinks to your site. Learn how to hyperlink your keywords in the anchor text of the backlinks. If you don't understand the words I just used then that's a good indication that you may not be ready to start building a site just yet. :)

I see people everyday that fail to make use of keywords in their anchor text (The text you click on a link to take you to a site) Never use things like click her, my website, Theodore, etc. and never place the URL of your site if you have the ability to use keyword specific anchor text. As an example, you mentioned acne as your site's topic. Ideally you want to find the best keywords that are acne related and use those as the link text. This is important!

Just another note: The web design classes you are going to attend may not venture into the field of search optimization, so you will need to learn these things elsewhere. The good news is that you should learn about anchor text and how to build links. Once you become able to build a site, you will be able to implement your SEO strategies. Best of luck, Kerry
