WILLIE:

The mentor told this young man, the very first thing you need to do do is STOP BUYING MORE stuff, no more shiny object toy purchases. Then he told the young man to use and apply what he already had learned, cause for the most part, the young man already had what he needed, he just needed someone to help point him in the right direction.

That was the best advice the mentor could have given this young man. Most people know everything they need to know and then some.
They just need to apply it.

Hi Joyce, you know I recently had a one hour call with the marketer I mention in the above comment and after a few pointed questions to me, he pretty much told me the same thing as his mentor told him, stop buying more educational stuff and begin to implement what you already have in your brain!!!

It's good to know though, that we all have sometimes had to deal with the bright or not so bright shiny objects calling our names in the midnight.

There are so many books and articles that can provide us with ideas on how to become a good leader. However, have you noticed how much of these tips we get to read are actually applied in real life? There are so many things and situations that you may not have read on your guidebook when it comes to leading a company. Keep in mind that you will be working with different kinds of people. The strategy that you will utilize for one particular employee may yield a different result to another worker. This is the beauty of individuality in the office. This is why you need to be flexible when you want to become an efficient leader. You may not always make people follow you but if you have a command at work, everyone will be encouraged to give their best all the time because they respect you as their boss. You need to learn how to appreciate the contribution of the people that works for you, too. This is a very basic thing that most bosses can overlook. You do not have to memorize all their names to make this possible. Simple acts of appreciation and gratitude can go miles when it comes to employee relations. Let them know that you value their contributions on your company. This could be the only strategy you have not tried yet.

That was a very good idea to stop buying new stuff and educational tools and start using what you have.
Being a good leader in business you have to make those kinds of decisions. You already have what you need before as you don't need more educational tools or more programs to start.
Everybody is aspiring to be something they are not, instead of looking in their own backyard and enjoying what they have. You have everything you need right within you.

From my own experience you just can not tell someone that you are a leader.
You have to show them, encourage them, advise them, and lead them to want to do the right thing.
When I first started to work, any body told me anything, I listened and learned.
Nowadays, anybody who tells me anything, I listen and comply. A good team member is a good leader.
Age does not make you a leader, experience does.

Leadership is a progression of mastership. Master what you already have before moving on to master something else. Indeed be grateful for what you have, aspiring to greater levels while maintaining a positive mindset. However, one step at a time, not in leaps and bounds, and in your time.

Others will follow as soon as they realise you are travelling in the direction they also wish to go. We are not all heading for the same destination. That's why it is important to be yourself, to ensure integrity.

At the end of the day, you're only a leader if others are following!

I agree with Joyce and Adam

But one thing I do have to say is leaders have a cause. They bring people to their cause and win people to their side.

They don't jump from thing to thing.... from launch to launch and when they do make a change it is because of their passion.

Look at Mike Dillard for example when I was 17 and I bought magnetic sponsoring from (Diane Hochman I believe)... His vision he talked about in his inner circle was Magnetic Sponsoring and Wealth Masters as his high ticket back end.

He never jumped ship once he set his foot there although things were presented.... he stayed firm and when it was time to make a big decision he made it and created EVG.

That's my two cents. Leaders have.... DEFINITENESS OF PURPOSE. If you don't know your purpose how can I follow you.

.

We have a group on Facebook called the Home Business Mastermind
where a very similar question was asked. Here's my response...

Help people believe in something, bring the bigger picture into focus,
inspire them and help them learn how to figure things out for themselves...

Leadership is not about doing everything for your team.
That's another tip I'll add. Don't fall into that mindset.

If you apply what I mentioned above, the goal is to build people up.
That won't happen if you try to do it all for them.

Empower your team
Help inspire your team
Share valuable knowledge with your team
Help teach them how to use the right tools for the job
Help guide them and cultivate the vision

Another tip would be don't try to be everything to everyone.
Being a leader isn't having all the answers and knowing everything.
Don't let fear or your pride get in the way.
A smart leader won't hesitate to seek out the answer
instead of pretending to know everything.

The inherent problem with that is you are training your team and
instilling the idea that if they don't possess that same "super knowledge"
that you appear to have that they won't be able to attain or surpass
the level of success you have.

Personally... I want every leader on my team to far surpass what I can do.

As the leader you have the task of setting the tone,
charting the course and showing them the way.
But they must walk the path on their own two feet.
Break their own sweat. Heave their own heavy breath climbing the mountain.
It makes them strong, tough and creates a rock solid foundation of experiential knowledge.

The simple answer every leader should strive to develop... "Teach a Man to Fish"

I posted something awhile back that may help expand on the concept
of leadership, the role you play as a leader and understanding the dynamic
of limitations, responsibilities and purpose.

Hope you enjoy it...

I was reminded by another marketer, that an aspiring leader should instead use "faith it til you make it."

This is the part that says, I know, like I know, like I know that I confidently I will succeed and be a leader. Also, being successful and a leader are not synonymous. You can be a leader who isn't successful just yet or vice versa you can be successful but be a horrible leader.

If you want to be a leader then take this guys advice >> John Maxwell has an awesome book on leadership called 'The 5 Levels of Leadership' that all home business owners must read. I highly recommend this to anyone wanting to be a leader.
