M.S., MLMBB, etc. in special media?

Postby Steve Matzura on Tue May 13, 2008 3:15 pm

I recently purchased the whole ball o' wax--MS, MLMBB,etc. I am expecting half a tree in paper to appear at my doorstep any day now. Trouble is, being totally blind is going to make it that much more difficult to get it all read, or scanned and converted to text. Are these course books etc. available in special media (protected PDF, plain-text, anything at all) that might help us blind MLM'ers out there? I'll sign away my first-born if I have to in order to be able to access this stuff! I think I know gold when I hear about it, and there's gold in them thar books. I've been failing at working MLM's for 20 years now, and it's about time I changed my methods. I perceive what I've been able to read so far as the path to that change. Now what I need is access. Can anyone "inside" help?

There is no PDF for the courses, or anything of that nature.

They are just the physical courses.

Sorry,

Sorry, Justin, wrong answer. In the age of reasonable accommodation, there's always a way. From a company as forward-thinking to offer such materials as M.S., there's *always* a way--sign an NDA, provide compositor's tapes, provide the original password-protected document used to produce the hardcopy, find an agency for the blind somewhere in Austin and slap the thing on a scanner and record it reading the book, ... lots of ways to comply with the reasonable accommodation clause of a law most folks don't even know exists, but which is getting pressed into service more and more often. No problem, I'll still get it done.

Hello Number6,

This may be a bit late in coming ( I just recently bought MS, myself ) and I have a couple of thoughts for you:

1 ) MS came to me as a printed manual, but I was offered to go to my back office and download the pdf files and read it while I was waiting for the printed material to come in. Adobe reader now has a "read out loud" function that will read the pdf file to you, ain't the best sort of reading, but it beats trying to do things with it.

2) The bonus materials are either pdf or audio / video format. I understand your issue with seeing, but you should be able to at least play the videos on the computer ( I'm supposing that you have made adjustments to your computer so that you can see what you're typing to the forums ) and listen to the conversations.

3: if the computer doesn't work for you, I understand that Amazon carries a reader ( I forget what it's called ) but it can take the pdf, load it and read it for you.

Hope this helps

Ron V.
