Every business has a target market, whether it's a
restaurant, clothing store, or an electronics line.
They don't need every customer out there; they focus on a
target market and try to take as big of a share in that
target market.
Well, network marketing is a business, so why shouldn't we
be any different.
We to, need a target market.
I know, I know, but your upline told you to approach
everyone about your business… your brother, your mother,
your best friend, your neighbour, etc etc we've all heard
it.
Well, if you want to stick to that approach be my guest,
but you're going to get very exhausted, very fast in this
business.
Ask yourself this question, what are the 3 main qualities I
want in a rep?
I don't know about you, but mine would be someone with a
large circle of friends, successful in sales/marketing, and
is entrepreneurial.
Now ask yourself these questions, would it be more effective
chasing EVERYBODY?
Or would it be more effective approaching people with the 3
main qualities I want in a rep?
They say network marketing is a great financial vehicle to
reach financial freedom.
Yet the tools they give you for that vehicle are lousy.
What great businesses out there do you see the owner try to
hire any regular Joe?
Do you think when Bill Gates is looking to hire for someone
in his company he goes out on the street and see who wants
to work for him?
You need to focus on a target market that suits the quality
of people you're looking for.
The easiest way to create a target market is by jobs or
career.
What types of careers fit your criteria?
For mine it would be business owners, realtors, insurance
agents, community leaders, the list goes on.
If you owned a car dealership, would you hire people in sales,
or the guy working at McDonald's?
Find out the 3 qualities you want in a rep and focus on that
target market.
Now I mean if you meet someone that wants to do it, that
doesn't mean forget about them.
But, as far as your prospecting is concerned you need to
focus on your target market.

You are quite right, Brent.
Targeting your products and services to the right group of
people who need and want what one has to offer can determine
anyone's amount of success in business.
I recall a sales tip written about in a book by Brian Tracy that was
the secret to some of the top door to door salespersons in the country.
Essentially, their success was due in large part to first having identified
which group of people needed or wanted the product or service being
offered before they headed out to knock on doors.
The target, preferably, had purchased the same or a simliar product
or service in the past.
This made it easier in closing sales.
The more targeted the leads list, the greater the chances for success.

This is a people business, people join people not companies. I am willing to build people, because they will build my business. I want business partners and I want life long friends.

To identify your target market is very crucial. I've said it all over BN network, yet hundreds of people still don't get it...
Your business will grow exponentially if you identify the right market...
Remember: People hate to be sold, but they love to buy...
So quit selling to people who hate to be sold, and start supplying to people who love to buy...
Hope you get it finally.

I couldn't agree more.
Friends and Family aren't always business minded. They don't all believe they can be successful, and certainly not in a NWM company.
With some of them, they'll turn it down just because YOU Brought it to them, so you're right; It's best to approach 3 of the RIGHT people, than 300 anybodies.

Re: A Target Market Is Essential & Will Save You The Headaches
I think I actually remember Brian Tracy saying something about that also when he was up here in Vancouver. I've been to 2 of his sales seminars in the past. But ya, the more targeted to your product/service the more efficient your results will be. When I 1st got in network marketing over 6 yrs ago, I never understood it. I just talked to every single person... I did have some success, but it just wasn't worth it. I mean if you talk to enough people, you eventually do find someone. But with a target market, it just makes a lot more sense.
I like the quote there Brett "People hate to be sold, but they love to buy..." My background is in Real Estate and I hear about it all the time where people lose deals cause they talk too much. There out there overselling to someone that want's to sign the dotted line they eventually back out. 1 thing I've learned is the best people in sales usually don't talk much, but their great listeners. When I went to my very 1st network marketing convention 1 quote I remember from 1 of the speakers was "I'm not a Salesman... I'm a Tellsman. I tell people a way to achieve financial success and if they don't listen that's it. Cause If I have to sell someone on this, it's going to be that much harder to sell them not to quit."

That is without a doubt the best way to put it I have heard in a long time Brett! Excellent!
