anybody heard about 'NLP' principles?

Postby Verniel Cutar on Sun Apr 17, 2011 9:27 pm

Yeah there's this concept called "neuro linguistic programming" (NLP)and its principles are being used in many fields like dating, sales, business, etc.

Recently I heard some MLM'ers talk about it and make a great deal out of it. They say it helps you communicate better with prospects, both face to face and online.

Now this is not something I personally sell or promote. I do not have any NLP training in my marketing programs. Just wanna know if there are people out here who has even heard about NLP, and if so, kindly share your experiences about it (or what you know about it so far).

Have a great day! ;)
Sincerely,

Hey Vernial,

It's a good question. NLP is a pretty broad term, but in essence it's about using Language to reprogram the brain (yours or other people's) to achieve desired results.

There's two major sides to it:

1. Some great tools for re-programming your own mind, which is powerful if you're looking to install new beliefs, mindset and so forth. It can be very, very powerful but tends to work best if someone is using NLP techniques to help you. A closely related field is Neuro Associative Conditioning (named by Tony Robbins) which is similar in intention, though has a slightly different slant approach wise.

2. Some tools which come under the NLP umbrella are more geared towards communicating with others. These are largely the ones taught in the context of sales and business. Ranging form simple rapport building to virtual hypnosis, implemented knowledge of NLP can certainly help to increase communication and persuasion skills.

Many successful MLMers (and others) are using some NLP, sometimes simply under the guise of good communication, not as NLP. Studying it will undoubtedly help you improve your ability to use language, internally and externally, to achieve what you want.

There can be some moral 'grey areas' with NLP use since the ability to manipulate others to your own will with words alone needs to be tempered with a high degree of maturity and responsibility to avoid leaving a nasty mess behind you...

A couple of recommended sources:
Tony Robbins has some nice, accessible (and powerful) self-help stuff. I still like the older books by Richard Bandler and John Grinder, who are credited with developing the field based on the hypnosis techniques of Milton Erickson..

Hope that helps mate,
Good luck!
Jym

great useful input Jim. Thanks for that. I have been writing about NLP before as a freelancer...but I didn't know that it's being taught in network marketing training as well. ;)
Sincerely,

You're welcome Verniel.

I'm not sure that it's being taught as such, only that certain principles and elements are being used and taught by some Network Marketing leaders. Todd Falcone is one, some of his material goes right into rapport building as taught by NLPers.

I know a few Network Marketers who are trained in NLP to various levels, and seem to benefit from applying NLP to MLM. Worth exploring I'd say :D

As a Master Practitioner of NLP, I agree to a certain degree. There are many people who are using dark NLP to manipulate people. But many people in the MLM and NLP field, if we use these things for positive intentions....only good things can happen. :D

I have used it a little bit...it's pretty cool and it works IF you do it right. But you have to be very cautious with it because if done wrong you can confuse and even repel people. :/
