I think you need to have the end result in mind when starting a business. By that that I mean ask yourself if you want get the best out of your enterprise and succeed you need to do get result and be efficient in terms of acquiring and attracting new costumers.
That is going to be the key to your success. It all sounds good to tell people that you have the best business in the world. Is whatever you are promoting going to solve the other person's problem. It maybe the best thing for you but not necessary for me and we all know that people move products, products don't don't move people.
For you to probably get my attention you need to bring some value to the table that can get my attention.
All of us here are marketing online and I think giving away some free valuable content to start up a relationship is a good idea. Now it will be up to you weight the perceived value in what you are getting for free in order to move forward.
Cheers!

JenRoering wrote:Maybe this is really dumb but I sort of struggle with some of the aspects of MLM and find some of the things people do to be slimey. I love the MLM structure, and think it's the best way to make money, I just sometimes have trouble doing some of the things to promote my business because I just find the world of auto-responders and free ebooks to be a little creepy. Am I alone in this? I picked our primary company because it didn't feel like an MLM and absolutely love it. I want to bring it to the world and grow it online I just don't want to feel like another huckster pawning off things to others. I do understand the value of offering free advice and becoming an expert in MLM building- is there a "normal" way to do this online?![]()
Does anyone have any advice for me?
Thanks in advance,
Jen 'The Imperfect Marketer'
Hi Jen,
I do want to disagree with you but I don't know how you come up with the slimey aspect. So it's best that I just tell you what I know about auto-responders.
If you set the subject line right, you're not slimey.
If you put valuable content on your e-mail body, that's not slimey, that's value.
If you put a little pinch of selling and not pushing the sale through out the e-mail body, that's not slimey. It's just business after providing your readers a good read.

Hi Jen,
Not that all online marketing is shady as you see it.
But there are marketers out there that employ deceitful methodologies.
The simple answer ... Don't Be That Guy.
Now you see it. Now you will recognize it when it shows itself again.
Take what you need from those encounters and make YOUR marketing better.

I just wanted to thank you all for your comments, I appreciate your time in helping me with my slight hang up. I "get" the principles of attraction marketing and understand why people offer their free ebooks and advice. My take on things just stems from the perception that ten million people are offering the same information, how do you not come across as being the same as everyone else? I'm sure I'm not alone in 20 new emails a day from auto responders and I never read them because it all seems the same. I do understand niche marketing and branding yourself. I just think there has to be some sort of way to balance it all and retain your own personality, while getting people to attract to you.
Thanks again to each of you. This has helped me quite a bit.

Exactly! You have to keep your own personality with all you do. Be yourself. Only then will you stand out and attract those worthy of your time.

Re: Anyone else struggle with the "slimey" aspect of MLM?
Your not alone on the feelings here. However it is really no different than any other sales job really. There are millions of realtors selling houses out there. 1 can sell more than any other. Why is that?
Simple really, he has more knowlegde and is willing to give his time for free. He comes across as someone who is willing to do what it takes to make sure your sastisfied. The others just want the sale and move on to the next person.
If you look at MLM the same way. Aslong as you are sincere about helping people get to thier dreams. The MLM does not seem to be as slimey. If your one that just wants the money, depending on your morals it may feel slimey to you.

I want to piggyback on this. I believe this is where MLM, NM gets a bad name. People see their friends, family, etc change because these people end up following a script...I know at first I was guilty of this.
So here is what I now teach and use, BE AUTHENTIC AND GENUINE. The scripts are there to help you, but make them your own. The auto-responders can help you, but make them "Jen."
I think it's sad people lose who they are when they just dive into a system and become the system as opposed to using the system as a tool for you. The systems work, but be YOU.

Hey Jen,
Yeah, it seems like there's a million capture pages all promising tons of leads and money, if you will only surrender your name and email address. The videos seem to say the same things, the sales pages go on forever and all seem to promise the same things. And then all of their 'pitching' emails conditions you to ignore them or delete them.
So what do you do to stand out in the crowd? Look at what everyone else is doing and run the other way
Seriously, tell your story Jen and help people identify with you and relate with you, so that they can see how you can help them achieve THEIR goals and dreams. Share LIFESTYLE stories to stir up their emotions, so that they want what you have and seek you out as a mentor.
It's the simple things like a video I saw from Mark Hoverson, where he is in the back yard catching leaves with his daughter. Content like that connects at the heart and helps you develop trust, and it conveys the message of financial freedom and time freedom that people desire.
Keep learning and growing!
