Guys,
I'm looking for a little bit of insight. I'm doing hard core down and dirty testing and tracking of free traffic driving strategies and I wanted to know what free traffic generation strategies you're using that are driving sustainable long term passive free traffic of quality.
Right now I'll be testing under microscope, articles, videos, and forums, but I think that's really the end of the road.
You can get pumps with Twitter or FaceBook, but it's not really sustainable, and SEO takes time. Are there any free strategies I'm missing out on that people can make immediate gains from for implementing that create passive residual traffic that I'm leaving out?
Thanks for the feedback. I'll be sharing the results after the 30 to 60 day test period here as well.

Re: Best Sustainable Free Traffic Sources For Beginners?
I find my blog brings in a lot of traffic but as you have already said the SEO stuff takes time and you have to build up valuable content.
I have not found a single free method that brings in fast good quality traffic like say google search.
However, given time and effort the combination of blog, facebook, twitter, Youtube, articles and PR all bring in leads/sales. They all serve to work together to brand You Inc. using attraction marketing.
I recommend getting a copy of Jim Yaghi/David Schwinds Google Switch as this is an excellent document that shows exactly how to use all of the above together to best effect.

Thanks David,
I was thinking about adding Blog Commenting to the list, but I wasn't sure if I should test by sending traffic back to the personal blog itself or a capture page. Tracking results back to the blog becomes a little convoluted as far as monetization (but maybe I just need to do a little more thinking on the topic.)
Thanks,
Daegan

Re: Best Sustainable Free Traffic Sources For Beginners?
I've had that same "tracking struggle" Daegan
with blog commenting.
I KNOW it gives me good quality traffic
because when I ask, they tell me they
first saw my blog comment somewhere...
But because sometimes you want those
blog comments to work double time as
SEO good quality back links to other content
pieces...
It's super hard to really track.
But the psychology is sound.
Blog comment of quality = curiosity...
Clicks to vid or blog post with more good stuff.
(thanks back link)
And THAT piece leads to lead capture page...
SOLID marketing flow...
VERY hard to track.

Daegan,
The only way to track blog commeting traffic reliably is to use a unique capture page for your test that puts people on a unique list. Then track sales from that list.
But make it a capture page on your main blog so you catch the SEO juice too.
But you probably know that already.

I'd say this is 100% dependent on what it is you're trying to do with your traffic and what kind of traffic you're after.
Talking about sustainable though, SEO should definitely be on the list because it really doesn't take as much time as most people think depending on what kind of keywords you're going after, but they LAST. and cost vs reward can be killer because you don't continue to pay beyond what you invest.
GO DEAN!

Hmm,
I've got conversion tracking on the blog, so I guess if I think about things from the other side, doing a blog commenting test (even though will provide somewhat convoluted results) will still be valuable, because I haven't seen anyone put metrics to the actions involved in the process. I'm sold, I'll add it to the list, ohh and BTW anyone looking for lots of blogs to comment on, here's the mecca:

How about "Traffic Exchanges"? Would you like to test them.
I don't have any personal stories about them but Cedrick Harris
seems to think Traffic Swarm is great.
