Do You Think Learning The Personality Colors is Important?

Postby Cami Lopez on Tue May 11, 2010 5:34 pm

So many people in network marketing study personality colors. Some do not. Share your feelings on this and how this has helped you or made things worse.

I think that learning the personality colors is very important. It helps you connect with your prospect and this is the beginning of building a relationship.

Hi Cami, I strongly believe that the personality colors are very important to know. Its important to know how to talk to each person.

.

I went through the Magic of Colors course from Jerry Clark years ago and it was extremely insightful.
But I'm a psychology buff, so I like this kind of stuff anyway.

But I would say Yes, it's a very helpful piece to have in your understanding of marketing mechanics. When you understand the basic personality types then you can ascertain a little quicker how to talk with people on their level.

So for instance when you give a presentation or talk about your business you're going to have a pretty different conversation with a RED as you would a GREEN.

A red personality may want to see an emphasis on the "rock star" lifestyle and showing how people look up to great leaders; appealing to their ego.

While a green is very likely to want to crunch the numbers and see how this works; it has to "make sense" to them.

The one HUGE caution I would put out there though is this ...
Don't use it to stereotype people or "put them in a box."
I've seen many people do this and it's ugly. We're so much more dynamic than some profile.

Knowing the principles and knowing how to use that knowledge is vastly different.
The later being more of an art I would say.

If you haven't seen Jerry's material you can check him out at ClubRhino.com

I think I'll be the voice of minority on this one.

Over the years, I've come across many different "systems" for dealing with people. One teaches that everyone has a certain "color" and that you need to handle the "reds" one way....and the "greens" another way, etc....

Another system teaches that some people are visual, auditory and kinesthetic. So, when you talk to "visual" people you say things like "I SEE what you're saying"; when you talk to auditory people you say things like "I HEAR what you mean."; when you talk to kinesthetic people, you say, "How did you FEEL about what you heard?"

And still another system teaches you that you need to mirror and model. When they lean forward, you lean forward. When they raise their voice in pitch, you do the same. God know what you're supposed to do when they pick something out of their nose.

I remember several years ago that I had the idea that -- if I could just learn all these things and master them -- then it really wouldn't matter what kind of person I wound up talking to.....I'd just go on "automatic pilot" and I'd always know the right way to communicate with them so that my business and I would be more attractive.

And here's the thing: the more time I spent pursuing that stuff....the fewer sales I made...and the less money I made.

Why? Because at the end of the day, these systems are still based on getting you to perform in an artificial way in order to "get someone to do something".

When I dumped all that stuff and started focusing on being AUTHENTIC....I went from less than $1,000 per month to over $40k per month in less than a year.

Why?

Because authenticity is rare.
Because we live in a world of artificiality.
Because everyone that your prospect encounters has an agenda.
Because everyone is constantly bombarded with someone who's trying to work some "angle" or "get them to do something".

But, when your prospect runs across someone who's completely authentic and isn't trying to play games or "posture" them or work an angle....

....something happens.

I believe we all have the ability -- a mechanism in our minds -- that allows us to know when something is real or not. And we only get into trouble when we ignore it. And that's true for the marketer AND the prospect.

So, it's my belief that -- if you want to see how much power you actually have in your business -- just be authentically powerful and see what happens. If your experience is like mine, you'll make a lot more money and you won't worry too much about what "color" someone is anymore.

As always, this is my perspective. Try it out for yourself; what I've said may or may not fit your business the way it fits mine.

To your success!

I think it's a fabulous tool. It can save alot of time and miscommunication if one simply understands which colour personality he/she is dealing with.

The colours or whatever type of training you want to take runs into the danger Richard spoke of. Not only is it easy to label or put someone into a box but when you see the excuses pop up: "I'm green - I don't need to have a personality" or "I forgot, but then you know I'm blue, giggle, giggle", then it is being abused big time.

You can completely forget the colours if you simply learn to listen. Listening will tell you what your prospect is really asking and that's the skill everyone should learn - Learn to listen and you will become the best sales person in your organization. No manipulation involved.

So I vote NO.

Cami.Hi!

Yes. I do like it....but I do not rely too much on it.

Since it is base upon your infancy...I ends up being Yellow...but according to my new "I" I am a different color...simple because I have changed a lot.

I attended one great two days seminar with Univera MLM...and they use that technology a lot...

When the speacker talk about the red people I did notice that when people realise before hand that the red people are the poweful leaders...then people let their pre-concieve notions abour leadership clutter their reason and they come to believe that all of them are red...meaning?...that once people discovered first hand what is the meaning of the traits of a leader they CHOOSE deliverality to be RED.

I rather the Orient approach which is base on YOUR CURRENT TRAITS and are
WIND (that is ME)
FIRE.(leaders)
Water.
Earth.

If I want to soar I will partner with Fire...because Wind increase Fire...and Fire people does not do good partneiring with water because Water extinguish Fire.

Well at least that is my taste.

Be well,

Roger Aburto

It's always fascinating to me to learn about what makes other people tick. The Colors training and others, as there are many names for it, are helpful, I think, when dealing with people in all walks of life and even our family relationships. If you can understand where people are coming from I think it makes it easier to understand them and even be more tolerant and loving towards them. But be careful, some are sensitive when you label them one color. ;)
