I have been hearing this saying for some time now and wondering what does it mean.
Doing something over and over again and expecting different results turns out to be a job. We were instilled in this rule of keep doing something and you will get better at it.
A doctor does not do anything, he practices for years at his craft while he perfects his skills.
One the other hand, a criminal always gets caught, because he does the same way all the time.
But seriously, if I keep doing something, whether it is correct or not, I would learn something and/or change the way things were being done.
Why does in marketing seems to be different? Does doing the same thing over and over expecting different results work is marketing?

Hi Mario,
I am not sure what you are asking.
Albert Einstein said (or supposedly said) "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again but expecting different results."
I think that applies to marketing and everything else.
I think you may giving examples of a different cliche.
"Practice makes perfect"
I guess the key is knowing the difference between the two.

Yes, Insanity for sure...It would hold true for marketers as well.
Those that continue to do the things they have done will continue to get the results
they have gotten...of course until the big guys like google change how they score/rank
them, then they have to learn to adapt.
Thus we can talk about another great scientist by the name of Darwin with Natural selection
and the more commonly known survivial of the fittest! Those who can adapt to the
changes and survive will become the next generation of leaders.

Re: Doing Things Over And Over Expecting Different Results
Thanks Betsy,
Doing the same things over and over again is duplication. That duplication system seems to work when you can figure what works for you. Having a working program is done over and over again and it gets the results. If we change the way we are doing things we may get different results. The only way we know what we are doing is making those mistakes and learning the difference. That must be where the change is made.
Similarily, if you drive down a road and can't make a left turn. You have to go further and turn around to make your turn. Eventually you will learn that every road are right turns.
I guess we have to change the way we are doing things to expect different results.
