Free? Why?

Postby Lynda Cromar on Wed Feb 08, 2012 8:55 am

I think people have gotten the false impression that just because its all on the internet it has to be free. Whether they are on or off the internet, we should expect to purchase good tools and services, that is what makes the Free Enterprise system great!

As always chime in with your thoughts!

For myself and others I've helped get started it has always been "Time vs Money". Newbies don't usually have a lot of extra cash but they have time. There are tons of free mareting methods available but they require time. Often a lot of time. If people don't have the money they can spend time instead.

As time has gone on I have purhased a bunch of tools I couldn't afford a few years ago. No longer do I have to spend countless hours doing somewhat tedious task. I made it a goal to make enough money I could invest in my business and get past the time thing.

That ones easy. Because a lot of people were taught that and so therefore they turned around and teach it as well. No real thought to how are they going to make money other than to do as they are told and wait for someone to ask you what you do. A friend of mine put it very well: Become a friend, become a really good friend and then hope that they like you enough to join you.

The other scenario I see happening is people have adopted the Attraction Marketing principles and think if they wait around long enough someone will see all this massive amounts of good copy you're producing and they'll start the chatter so others will come and see your good content and it will snowball after that.

Duh ! But I guess it's a journey and eventually when they get frustrated they'll come seeking the real answer which is get good at selling, get good at copywriting, get good at recognizing mentors who can provide the real solution to building a big business.

Something I have observed many IM doing anymore, quite successfuly I might add, is, they start off with a free something or other to get you to opt in to their list, and then you are immediatedly redirected, to a sales offer, usually a one time offer type of deal.

And the offer is closely related to whatever the prospect intially opted into for free.

The marketer's using this approach say it is a way to take advantage of, (not in a bad way,) or using all your internet real estate. Heck the prospect has already raised their hand, sorta, by opting in to your list, basically saying they have an interest in what you have to offer.

If they buy, you've made a sale and have them on your list as a known buyer, and if they don't buy right now, you can communicate with them via email overtime and mabe they will do business with you later.

Must admit, I have not necessarily seen this approach used by many NWM though. Most NWM are into the attraction marketing methods as Joyce mentioned.

I think the majority of network marketers don't use that because we are not really taught to use it. It means actually learning how to create and use effective sales funnels. I do agree that they would be affective if used by a few but could be that if used a lot they would loose there effectiveness. That is absolutely why attraction marketing is stressed but it takes time and patience to learn any technique!

I'm not currently using an OTO after my free offer, but I have done it in the past with good results... It's nice in the sense that it can help you recoup some advertising/marketing costs, and it is also good in some cases because it does give a prospect something to BUY from you immediately if you appeal to them.

In the long run, free can actually cost you way more money, because when you simply follow a bunch of "free" advice you tend not to take it as seriously as when you pay for something. I think weight loss is a good example of this...there are millions of weight loss programs (Nutrisystem, Atkins, WeightWatchers, etc.) and I am convinced that one of the reasons these programs are so successful is people feel obligated to follow them after making an investment!

Investing in solid training materials in your network marketing business is not the "easy" button, but it can cut down significantly on the learning curve for many by MLMers looking to gain an advantage.
