Hey Better Networkers,

Over the last 3 months I have been working my @$$ off to try and rank on my own name...Yes it sounds a bit egocentric and i am nothing about creating ego. But the ability to rank on your keyword gives you the ability than when a prospect opts into your capture page and askes who you are...

there you are. I rank #2 in 4 out of 5 of the top search engines.

HOW...

Everytime that I mention my name in a blog post i link it out to my social media profiles....also, if everytime that I mention a social community I link my profile to the link.. It gives me tons of backlinks to my social profiles that creates a circle to my name.

that is it.

I'm not sure people truly understand just how important it actually is though.

First thing I did when both my boys were born was buy their domain names.
Birth - Name - Domain...

Seriously, personal brand equity is HUGE!
Think of all the people that only "wish" they had their proper name as a domain name today.
I met someone who legally changed their name so they could own the domain name.
What a crazy world we live in huh?

But you're absolutely right, OWNING those positions are some of the most potentially profitable digital real estate you can have in your asset portfolio. For that matter, any domain fits that profile. Every domain is a little piece of cyber real estate. The new rich, the new digital economy is gauged by cyber land barrons.

If you aren't master of your own domain - someone else will be.

This is definitely something that can be an asset for yourself...

I know of an Internet marketer who ranks #2 on Google out of close to 80 Million results just for her FIRST NAME.

She did it all by doing backlinks too, look up "Angela" and you'll find her on Google in the second position.

Since I saw that I've thought of doing the same for my name, which like Dean commented, it's something I'll get around to later wholeheartedly.

For the meantime I'll take your advice Jeff and build backlinks through my blogs and more for my name. That sounds good to me.

@Richard great idea! My son is 3 with a 'rare' combination of last and first name (or isn't that what we all want to think!), but I think I'll head over and grab him a dot com.

I fortunately take the first 2 spots, but there is an opera singer dude that I just cant seem to get rid of! with same name and from the same country. I've have been mistaken for him before, even though I'm about a third his age.

I've been doing premium search engine positions for our members on our site for Google, Bing and Yahoo (with PPC) which is a great way for our members to secure that extra spot on page one.

To carry this one step further, I participate in several forums that do not allow you to disclose your personal information at all, so I picked out an alias and pushed that higher in Google so they can find me. I get several people a week that accomplish that goal. so I think it was worth it.

However I keep hearing about back lineks but have no idea what they are, could someone enlighten me please.

Also as a kid I hated my name, Tristram Lodge, but now it's great as I seem to be the only Tristram Lodge on the internet!
