Here's Why Most People Never Make A Dime with Social Media

Postby Kristen Darkenwald on Wed Apr 22, 2009 5:27 pm

Hey There!

I saw a huge discussion going on whether new network marketers should/shouldn't use social media

and regardless of that-

it doesn't matter if someone is a 10 year "veteran" or a brand new person..

because most network marketers, attraction marketers, whatever you want to call it,

never make a dime.

In my opinion, (but heck what do I know- just google me)

never has there been a time in network marketing where there are these communities-

where literally millions of people from around the world are hanging out..

and are one click away from you-

while you're sitting at home in your pjs

(like I am now- with my dog in my lap snoozing)

This is HUGE

and again, in my opinion (really, who am I to talk..:P )

social media has provided an amazing resource and medium for

network marketers.

Why?

because as we all know, or should know

network marketing is the business of relationships..

that's the soul of this industry..

someone's going to buy your products or join your business

based on your ability to build a relationship and connect with your prospect.

but also, through the use of social media,

it is possible to leverage technology to virtually have videos, blogs, etc doing presentations for you

24/7

so while I'm snoozing in my bed at 3 am in NY

someone in Australia is checking my videos and stuff out

and these social mediums are doing presentations for me.

(this is also a topic for another day)

BUT-

regardless of the power of the technology

and the huge potential social sites give us network marketers

to reach millions of people worldwide

MOST people will never make a dime..

because-

regardless of how many videos you make

how many followers you have on twitter

how many friends you have on facebook, etc etc

What makes 1 person make thousands on social media

while the majority of people never make a dime..

the answer is whether you know how to communicate

if you understand human psychology

why people act a certain way,

how people think

and then USE this knowledge (which you will not learn overnight)

and market into people's DNA.

At the end of the day, we are marketers..

and if you want to succeed in this industry

whether it's with social media

or

putting out flyers ;)

you have to take the time to learn how people think,

why we behavior in certain ways

and learn HUMAN PSYCHOLOGY

and

be someone who can

rise up from the crowd

and

ATTRACT thousands

versus

just being someone

in the crowd making noise.

And remember, the social sites are just mediums to use,

very powerful ones..

but

you won't make a dime

if you never give yourself permission

to learn how the big guru's

became guru's

and I promise you..

they ALL understand and are masters

at human psychology and human behavior.

What do you think?

Great to have access to so many people and new sites appearing
everyday but getting out of hand with everyone turning it into a
billboard for their company.
It is important to connect with people, look at their profile and
actually comment on something you may have in common. That
person will remember you for knowing you took the time to look
at their personal info.

I think you may have hit the nail on the head there.

Hey Kristen

I think you are tottaly 144.54% right about this.
Today, in the 21st century there are social gatherings
where you can tap into a huge social party of
TARGETED people and potential business partners with
a click of a button.
It is of course a matter of knowing how to do it,
but that is a whole other story.

Kristen,

Excellent post! It's often overlooked and not highlighted enough how necessary it is to understand people, and know their basic psychological characteristics in order to reach beyond the noise of thousands of voices in the social media world! You have touched on one of the most basic and primary skills for success in this industry. Anyone choosing to study and understand this can make a difference in their level of success.

Thanks!

I think the points about understanding human psychology and behavior are excellent and spot on. Social media provides access to a massive market of potential customers (the opportunity), but your success depends on getting your message heard (the execution). It is like being in the stands at a sporting event - you are surrounded by thousands of people who might be interested in what you are offering, but you have to figure out the right way to get their attention and win their trust.

I don't know about psychology. It was not my favorite subject and it was a requirement but I had good teachers. Social media is a party where you spend some time making new friends and building relationships. My experience is if you have the same 3 best friends since 2nd grade and have not met anyone new since high school you are not going to be successful in networking anything. If your address book hasn't had any new additions in six months and/or less than 500 people you are not a networker. If you don't like people except the ones that make you laugh on TV you are not a networker. If you are doing everything you can to be someone else you are not going to be successful as a networker.

It is not complicated. Making money with any online or mlm is not that difficult. What is difficult is duplicating your efforts. Once you can show others how duplication does work, how it will work for them [once they get out of their own way] the rest is simple. A little time and simple daily action steps, done consistently is all that is necessary. IF you are a walking spam machine, hand out your biz card with every handshake and wear an 'I am rich, ask my how' button you are NOT on my candidate list. The beauty of networking is you get to choose who to play with, who to party with and who to get rich with. A couple dozen likeminded individuals with a dash of commitment and an interest in making a difference with others are just hours from all of them being financially independent. If you want to work for 40 years you have only 2000 weeks to get it done. Not a lot of time. Want it done in 5 years? 250 short weeks ... stop wasting your life. Get involved with anything that calls your name now.

Greetings and Salutations!

I hope this message finds you in a time of meaning and abundance.

I have found that people listen to me not because I have a great grasp on human psychology or am a master marketer.

I believe they listen to me, because I am in a constant quest to be a better knower of myself, a kinder person, and a teller of truth.

And, as I continue in my quest, people meet me where I am.

I don't have to change their minds or rise, I simply have to be.

Cheers!
