I am in the process of writing my sales letter and I would like to know as a newbie in the business, (actually I have been in mlm for 4 years with no success) how do I come across in my copy as an expert but haven't experienced any major success? How do I make people want to listen to me without any proof?
Thank you for your time and wisdom,
JW

Re:How do I portray as an expert when I am a newbi
Leverage the success of other experts until you have the results that you need in order to put yourself as the expert.
I am not saying steal others stuff... I am saying leverage other people's success.
I started this way.
I used affiliate programs like Magnetic Sponsoring for leverage and generated a ton of leads and made some money. Then after I generated a significant amount of leads and made decent amount of money... I had results to push me across as the expert.
Hope this helps,
Justin

In addition to the good advice of above I would also strongly recommend that you write while "being" yourself. Interject your personality and especially sense of humor. People love reading something that comes across as if the author is talking to them from across the table.
I'm sure in four years of NWM/MLM you have much experience and maybe especially in areas that "don't" work. Capitalize on these experiences and share them with others openly. What you give will come back to you ten fold.
By all means, DO NOT try to come across as an expert or you will be discovered and lose credibility. J.K. Rowlings was NOT an expert writer and look how she has affected the world.

Re:How do I portray as an expert when I am a newbie..
JW, I thought the same thing when I started down the path of a Network Marketer... After a couple of months of acting like a newbie, I realized that I had more life experience then I was using when talking to prospects... Of course, this all came into affect after I received a link to Magnetic Sponsoring...
When writing your sales letter, be yourself and do not try to lead a person down a false path. If you have any of the other MS Courses, you will learn that being totally honest about what your are doing and the goals you are GOING to accomplish will draw people to you. Just be confident!!!
If you don't have any of the course, I would suggest that you do because it is an investment in yourself... Remember, how can you educate if you don't have the education... I will tell you this works, which is sort of a "back-fire" in my planning.... All of the knowledge I have received over the last couple of months has helped me with my current position in Corporate America.... Now, I just negotiated a new contract with an intial 10% raise, which is pure pocket money... The bad thing was that I wanted to move out of the corporate world in two years vice being a partner... Oh well, I will still work my company but on a 5 year plan...
Hope this helps... Let me know if you need anything...

Welcome JW!
Let me just add a couple of notes to the excellent advice you have already received. First, everyone of us, every single one, including you, has something we do well. Perhaps even better than most. For you... what is that? Is it closing? talking on the phone? face to face "bump into's", sales letters, written communication or something else?
You know what you do best, so work with that. Find a way to "speak" in that voice, the voice that says I know what I am talking about here. Also, like Craig said, you also know something else. You know what doesn't work. Ann Sieg wrote a book on what doesn't work and it lands her dozens of leads a day.
You don't have to be an expert right up front, just be real, be committed and be passionate. Show the traits of someone who is willing to do whatever it takes to succeed, and people will follow.

You have to know your subject. In order for you to be confident about what you are doing you have to know what you are doing.
Educate yourself in the industry.
Learn from your mentors, watch what they do best and learn from them.
If you want to be as successful as your leaders you have to duplicate what they do.
Just be honest and be yourself.

Re:How do I portray as an expert when I am a newbie..
When one of my daughters started at the College of the Arts to do her fine arts degree she was concerned that she would fail.
Her mother and I asked her "Are you an artist?" AND SHE IMMEDIATELY SAID "YES"
We knew she was an artist ... and know that in three or four years time she would be more masterful in painting and scupture. She had just forgotten that she was already a successful artist.
I propose that anyone who has survived for 4 years in any MLM Coy is already successful ... otherwise they wouldn't be there.
Someone has already wisely said "start BEING confident" ... and that's definitely a part of "BEING SUCCESSFUL".
Get rid of any negative influences ... surround yourself with other successful people as you are doing here on MS and dismiss any negative "mind chatter".
Then, and this is perhaps the most important aspect ... GO TO WORK. Work harder than you ever have before and never look back. Use the "Building on a Budget" strategies and monitor your results.
Then have your team members duplicate what you are doing successfully and your business will explode.
A master once told me that as soon as you've distinguished some problem, the problem is 90% solved.
I propose you have just distinguished that you keep telling yourself that you are not successful ... STOP IT!
Good luck and well done.

If you've been in for 4 years (in ANY business) you are NOT a newbie!
Let me explain...
If you've been going to meetings, if you've been reading and paying attention to trends in the industry, if you know about concepts like Personal Branding and the "Funded Proposal"... guess what? YOU ARE NOT A NEWBIE!
You DO have knowledge that your prospects do NOT have... so in their eyes - YOU ARE THE EXPERT!
Justin's right - definitely leverage your upline's success (or other people's success in your company), but don't RELY on your upline to make you a leader. YOU are the only one that can do that.
And the best start to becoming a leader is, first, stop calling yourself a newbie.
I don't mean to sound harsh (if I am, my apologies)... but I WENT THROUGH THE SAME THING! .. so I know where you're coming from.
The moment I said that it was MY business, and I started taking the role of the leader THROUGH MY ACTIONS, then I started getting results.
Hope that helps!
