Hi there,
I've joined twitter and I've been tweeting for a little bit now, but I feel as thought I'm missing the value of it.
Can anyone explain the value of Twitter and how best to use it?
Thanks!

Great question! I've wondered the same thing. Who really reads these tweets?

Re: How do you Use Twitter for Business??
In all honesty I do not use Twitter as much in business as I should. There are so many people on Twitter that just try and spam you. They will follow you and the first thing they send you is to a link to take a look at their sales pitch. It's like are you kidding me, I don't even know you yet you want me to join your business opportunity.
I would say the only real way to use Twitter without coming off as some spammer is just make friends with as many other network marketers as possible. Don't even send a person a link at all until they already know you, or until they ask for it.
This is the only way to really stand out on Twitter.
Just like Mark Weiser says if you are in a loud room and you whisper people will want to listen. I would use that technique in my Twitter marketing strategy.

I don't like Twitter.
About the only thing I have found it useful for is building my Facebook connections.

So apart from personal connections, it doesn't offer much value?
There definitely are those people who swear by it, if that's you- do share!

I don't like Twitter either. I think it was better a year ago, but now there is just so much spam and noise there, and very little real interaction.
Plus so many people tweeting how to get thousands of followers in a day and that kind of thing, meaning people are just looking to build their list or tweet their links.
I like Facebook way better. For one thing, you can brand yourself there. You can add your own videos, blog posts, make meaningful comments on what other people have posted, add photos, etc. Its just much more relationship based I find. And I'm glad they limit the friends to 5000. Anyone can have a fan page and as far as I know that is unlimited, but most people wait until they are close to their friend limit before even thinking about that.

Re: How do you Use Twitter for Business??
I get huge value from Twitter, but then I give a lot to Twitter, and that's the secret. I post as much as possible that is useful to others, I retweet other people's interesting links, I communicate with friends, share interesting news stories.
All of the above means that when I do post a link to my own blog, a lot of my followers go to it, and many of them Retweet it, which results in big traffic. In turn that means lots of new readers, plenty of RSS subscribers and best of all, regular new email subscribers.
Twitter is like any other social medium, approach it from a "What can I get out of this?" viewpoint and nothing will come of it. Approach it with "What can I add to the conversation" attitude and you'll come out a winner.

I haven't figured out the big picture yet either. I am following one guy who 'tweets' like 12 times an hour. I'm sure that's automated somehow. I will say that he dominates my home page there. Maybe that's the secret? Plus getting people to follow you that want what you're offering.

Re: How do you Use Twitter for Business??
Twitter used to be a social networking site where you could strike up a relationship. It's not that anymore.
Most people are eager to add huge numbers and they post tweets to promote something. There are automation systems that make it move very quickly. I have a couple articles on a blog style site. There's no company mentioned and I do not use that site to promote really anything. It was set up for our downline but lots of others have found it. When someone signs up they get access to two videos I've got on twitter automation. http://www.AskKimandPhilStone.com is the address. Don't know if I should be listing that here but it sure is relevant.
I manage multiple twitter accounts. One capture site I have got 13,000 hits from twitter in August.
The biggest point is to send truthful tweets. If you are hoping to get someone to your blog- let them know that in the tweet. Don't try to seduce people. If you have a tool that people may want, say so.
Also, use a URL shortener. Right after the hacking about a month ago the shortened URL's did not work. I redid all my automated tweets with full URL's and got half the traffic.
Those who I know who use twitter the way I do generally get 1500 hits per 10,000 followers. Of course that depends on your message. Then comes the value of your capture site. 1500 hits means nothing if you don't get people to register.
There's a ton more I could offer but wonder if this is the place to do that.
