Is Your Blog Killing Your Business?

Postby Linus Ruzicka on Sat Feb 06, 2010 11:14 am

This may cause some discussion as far as my point in here, but this relates to a recent blog post I just made.

Lets take a look at yourself for a moment. Why did you start blogging? Was it just a convenient way to get your content out to the masses? Were you trying to build a “name” for yourself and do some self branding? Were you simply trying to make money from a blog?

OR…

…Did you start blogging to generate more leads? Or did you start blogging to build your business?

I’ll be honest with you, whichever the case, it doesn’t matter. Many us are actually killing our businesses with blogging.

It’s very likely that up to this point, all of your blogging efforts have been killing your ability to convert traffic into leads, and therefore your business in the network marketing industry.

But many of us have gotten so wrapped up in generating more blog traffic that we’ve forgotten that we can also use our blogs to build our business.

Here is what some of us are doing and how to prevent it:

Nice article. Blogging can kill your business especially if it has no relation to it, or the relative articles are hidden under a layer of stuff that no one with the exception of your family cares to read (stories about your pets etc).
PS: One thing that can kill your blog, or at least get you in trouble is unauthorized use of copyrighted images, especially if you're monetizing your blog (affiliate programs, ads etc).

I started my blog to generate traffic and leads.

But I learned in my magnetic sponsoring course that it is important to give value to your readers. So I focus on that and try to give all good tips for network marketing to my visitors that I know and find on other blogs in internet.

So I show them that it is much better for them to have a sponsor like me who knows so much about the business. They must feel that I can really help them to built a team successful in network marketing and generate a real income from it.

With this on my mind I am writing blog posts without thinking of key words, SEO or about posting everyday or three times a week or whatever.

If there is something with value for network marketing business I just write the next post.

Best regards

Volker

Exactly guys!

All of the replies here are exactly correct.

Your content at the beginning NEEDS to be content with value and substance. If you are not creating content with value, you have no traffic or loyal readers.

BUT if you are producing content and giving high value to your readers, not only will your readers love it, but the search engines will as well because of the increased traffic.

My simple point is that we are in a business, and to get something out of your blog, it is extremely helpful to leave reminders to your readers that you are in a business and what that business actually is.

When you have a flow that goes:
1. traffic
2. Leads
3. Leads into System team member
4. Team members into your primary business

you need to get your traffic from step 1 into step 4. The best way to do that is building relationships and providing content of value - and leaving little reminder to them that you are in business. Once they see your content and value, they will join you in that business instead of hunting around trying to find out how to join you by looking for some hidden or inconspicuous link buried in your text or graphics.

I've had my Wordpress blog for 5 years and I used to use it mainly for posting health articles but now I use it to promote products

I think that blogging will still be around however its decreasing because the people that blogged for social reasons are using the social network. Business blogging will be the same and in fact more businesses are converting their blogs into their entire website and making Wordpress a content management system.

Hi Linus,

Just want to make sure how would you leave a little reminder to the readers on your blog that you are in business?

Do you state boldly in the side bar, or the signing off part? The reason I ask is because, I've seen some blog that have their sig in every single blog post. Though that is good but it may seem repetitive to a user. What's your thought on this?

Jeffrey,

No problem man. I simply leave a little tie in from my blog post and transitions into a "direction" that I want people to follow.

Here is the post itself so you can see first hand what i am talking about. It (of course) is at the very end of the post: http://www.linusruzicka.com/blog-monetization-blog-killing-your-business
