Hello Partners:
The subject of LEADERSHIP is a vast one - there are many different opinions on it - much has been written about it (Dr. John Maxwell being one of my favorite authors on).
Personally, I tend to see leadership along these lines...
Leadership - is our ability to "persuade another person to do what they don’t want to do, in order to achieve what they want to achieve". Obviously, this is no easy feat. People are very 'resistant' towards undertaking certain and specific tasks. Yet, as a leader, our objective is to persuade them - through a sense of inspiration and honor - to do something that is for their greater good and for the greater good of all others concerned – no matter how distasteful the actual task may seem in the moment.
To me, leadership is all about influence and inspiration and example - and this can only come through a sense of honor, trust and respect for the Leader (which must be earned).
There are also many - traits - principles - qualities and skills that extra-ordinary leaders must possess - which are way beyond the scope this post.
Business Leadership Characteristics- In our Home Businesses however ((and in life)), we often encounter CHALLENGES along the way - obstacles that will truly "test" us.
In this regard, here is one of my favourite, favourite pieces - it has helped my on many, many fronts - I have had this taped on my office wall for many years:
I hope you might find it as helpful as I have...
---------------------------------------------------------------
LEADERSHIP => the 10 Commandments Of
1-- People are illogical, unreasonable and self-centered
>>> Love them anyway
-----------------------------------
2-- If you do good - people will accuse you of selfish, ulterior motives
>>> Do good anyway
----------------------------------
3-- If you are successful - you win false friends and true enemies
>>> Succeed anyway
----------------------------------
4-- The good you do today will be forgotton tomorrow
>>> Do good anyway
----------------------------------
5-- Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable
>>> Be honest and frank anyway
----------------------------------
6-- The biggest people, with the biggest ideas - can be shot down
by the littlest people with the littlest ideas
>>> Think big anyway
----------------------------------
7-- People 'favor' underdogs - but 'follow' only top dogs
>>> Fight for underdog anyway
---------------------------------
8-- What you spend 'years' building - may be destroyed overnight
>>> Build anyway
--------------------------------
9-- People really need help - but may attack you if you 'do' help them
>>> Help them anyway
-------------------------------
10-- Give the world the best you've got - and you'll get kicked in the teeth
>>> Give the best you've got anyway
----------------------------------------------------------------------

Re: LEADERSHIP => the 10 COMMANDMENTS Of
Hi Peter:
Thanks for posting the 10 commandments of leadership.
It all boils down to "do it anyway". We might not reap any
rewards immediately for some of the things we do for
others, but I believe that what goes around, comes around
and you can't help but benefit when you truly want to help
others succeed.
To me that's what a great leader is...a person who people
can relate to, who has the knowledge and ability to teach and
motivate others and who can generate excitement for the
good of all.
Effective leaders are hard to find. We are not born into
a leadership role but we can certainly learn the skills
needed to be that person that others want to follow.

Hi Jan:
Appreciate your comments - I agree totally.
Yes, TOP leaders are very rare - they have SO many attributes, some of which are...
They're - inspirational - focused - committed - steady in emergencies - passionate - visionary - honorable - assertive - confident - courageous - honest - with high integrity - non-compromosing standards - have a sense of humor - have ego in tact - are willing to admit their mistakes - strong (but not rude) - kind (but not weak) - bold (but not a bully) - thoughtful (not lazy) - humble (but not timid) - proud (but not arrogant) - on and on.
I came across a very nice Video on LEADERSSHP...

Re: LEADERSHIP => the 10 COMMANDMENTS Of
Thanks for that. Over the last couple of weeks I have really been digging in for a little bit better leadership qualities. I have been reading books, and watching videos, but I have to say that that post was probably better than all of them combined. I have not really heard it talked like that before.
Leadership is really a skill that you HAVE to have to succeed in this industry, yet so many people think that they can do without.
Well let me tell them, they CAN"T.
I like what you said about helping others, but i would like to add that people are sometimes to quick to try and solve others problems.
They think well the more people that I help the more successful that i will be, and so they go out there trying to solve everyone and their brothers problems, when in reality they have those same problems.
People need to look in the mirror and solve their own before they can move on to some one else's.
Great stuff tho!!

Peter, that is one of the best pieces on leadership I have ever read. I'm going to go over to your profile and see if you wrote an article about it and if you did I'm going to vote you a thumbs up!

I could not agree with you more about this Peter. All of this is so true and is so needed in our industry. I have felt that for a lot of people, the reason that their business is not doing as well as it could be is because of their ability it lead.
Thanks for being a great leader here.
