Of course this depends on what target market you prefer to go for. In my opinion the more educated our prospects the better prepared they are to accept Network Marketing or business online in general! I think sometimes we throw them into wondering if we are doing a scam or a pyramid based on our own language!
For instance:
Residual Income (what is that to a non-mlm person) something you throw away?
Bonus (remember non-mlm) does that mean I have to sell?
multi-level marketing - I have to talk to all my friends and family?
In other words using words they are familiar with already helps to get them interested
instead of residual income - replace with extra paycheck (everyone get that one)
We want to make it as friendly as we can, they will be able to understand it better once they have drunk deeply of the Koolaid!
What are your thoughts?

I would agree I would not use words like recruiting, warm market, ect... I use word that are found in traditional business.
Another thing that makes me different is the people I go after I spend 90% of my focusing on tradtional business owners and show them how a MLM even though I don't use the word MLM or network marketing will help through all ready exsisting business.
I have a book called "The Unfair Advantage Marketing Program" "How to never pay out of pocket for your advertising ever again!" Teaching traditional business how MLM can help them finance their business like many of us use funded proposals.

That's an analogy I would elimate from my vocabulary completely. "Drunk deeply of the koolaid" has a world wide negative connotation whether you are in MLM or not. I agree with you completely, in sales, every word matters and picking and choosing the right ones means questioning yourself (sometimes multiple times) whether the image you are conveying is right before you publish.
We've all done it. I know I have but learning is growing in my books and we represent a fantastic industry where Koolaid isn't or shouldn't be a part of that world.

Great points.
I would like to suggest that from time to time you share your "scripts" with people from outside of the industry and have them critique you. Or you could ask the people not interested in your opportunity to give you some feed back. You may find that you are using language that you don't even realize is problematic.
My two cents...

I'm not completely clear as to what exactly you mean by... "they will be able to understand it better once they have drunk deeply of the Koolaid!"
But what I think you are suggesting is maybe that people need to be aware of the language they are using when they are speaking to prospects.
Anyway...
My thoughts are...
If Network Marketers would LISTEN more than they do speak... I don't think they would ever need to worry about their prospects "wondering if we are doing a scam or a pyramid based on our own language!"
Personally, I don't ever get prospects "wondering" that because I have learned to make it about them and listen to their needs, wants and concerns and from that, I am able to help them decide if the PROFESSION of Network Marketing is right for them or not.

Most people, who may not be familar with NWM, which I would doubt, will almost automatically go in their mind to it's a pyramid scheme, whether you say residual income or extra paycheck.
For as Robert Kiosaki say's most peole are, or they have been employee's most of their life, so they will most likely have an employee midset.
SomethingA couple a years ago, I participated in a generic marketing funnel with Dale Calvert. What it entailed was a funnell that you could send leads to, who were looking for a home based business, NWM leads or people new to business. They'd see a capture page of Robert Kiyosaki explaining the benefits of having a home business and if they wanted more information, they could get the free CD by MR Kiyosaki called, "The Perfect Business," which as many of you know, talks about the benefits of the netwok Marketing industry.
All the lead was required to do was pay $3.95 for getting the CD shipped to their front door.
The program worked great for 2 reason's, one you were assured that the lead was giving you their correct contact information, esle they would probably not get the CD, and, if they paid $3.95 for having the CD shipped to them, you could be sure they most likely were serious about learning more about being in some type of a home business, and thus a very well qualified prospect..
Since everything was generic, you, the marketer, were left completely out of it, until after the prospect had listened to the CD, it was left up to Mr Kiyosaki to validate the NWM industry.
Who in their right mind is going to question Robert Kiyosaki?

to be honest I questioned him. When I first started looking at MLM online everyone was throwing his name around. Most mentioned Donald Trump as well. I knew Donald Trump but never heard of Robert Kiyosaki. Outside of NWM no one knows who he is. Your average Joe doesn't hear this stuff. I did pay attention since D. Trump is a bit successful.realdealwill wrote:Who in their right mind is going to question Robert Kiyosaki?
I'm glad the Kool aid thing is gone. That saying has always been used as a " put down" on some one.
My beliefs is acceptance of our industry comes from need. Those most in need of a change are open to ideas as long as they aren't spammy and full of hype. People are generally sick of hype.

Thanks Stephen I agree I had not heard of Robert Kiyosaki, Jim Rohn, or any of the other names we throw around nonchalantly.
The tight little world of working a job is governed by getting to work, doing our job the best we can, listen to the news, pray for the weekend and start all over again on Monday. No one was taught to believe in anything but that paycheck and pray that it was enough.
