I read an article earlier in PsychologyToday Magazine about how we perceive ourselves, how others may see us and the mixed signals that we may be giving off. I found it quite insightful and wanted to share it with you all especially those new to this profession. It's a little long but worth the read. Enjoy!!

Re: Perception is Reality... Reduce the Difference!
That's why it takes a while to get to know someone.
If they do something that you believe means one thing, but for
this person it means something different, you'll misunderstand them.
Don't judge a book by it's cover, right?
If you don't put your own perceptions on hold when dealing with other
people, especially new friends, you'll frequently respond in ways that
are inappropriate or give a message you didn't want to send.
I guess that's why Dale Carnegie was so successful by teaching people to
pay attention to the person you're talking to. It gives you a much better
chance at understanding where they're coming from.
