Secret Code

Postby Brad and Sonya Dark on Mon Jan 04, 2010 4:28 pm

I was working with Adobe Acrobat 9 (PDF) the other day, I had converted a word document to PDF, and I was trying to make it nice and pretty in the PDF file.

"When I say working, I really mean pulling my hair out" Man' that program does my head in, anyway I was having my normal battle with just about EVERYTHING I was trying to achieve with the PDF file and after about 4 hrs of getting absolutely no-where there were some carefully chosen keywords that began to flow fluently from my office.

It was at this point, my very adobe savvy fiancee decided that I needed some help!

She gently lent over my shoulder and asked me if I would like to know a secret code that is so universal I could use it everyday and incorporate it into all of my daily tasks.

At this point I was feeling pretty happy, I was about to learn a secret code that would help me figure out how to master this adobe program AND have the ability to use it with so many other of my daily tasks.

Of course I said Yes! Give me this code! "She said OK, write this down and commit it to memory."

<A HREF="Bradscode.html">ID10T</A>

She explained it as "I, D, 10, T" and I have to admit, I was so excited thinking I was learning something that only a handful of people in the world knew, that it took about 10sec for the penny to drop.

"Hang On!" You just called me an IDIOT didn't you!

This may not seem so funny to some, but at the time I found it extremely hilarious

She then went on to show me something that was very handy to know, some of you may already know this, but for those people like me that find using PDF is like a battle to retain your sanity. This worked really well for me.

"I'm using Microsoft Office 2007" Make your document in Word - > View - > Print Layout "or at least edit it there"

This allowed me to see how this document would look when I converted to to PDF and editing it in Word - > Print Layout function saved me hrs of brain-strain and stress trying to move text, links, pictures and videos around in PDF.

"Those guys at adobe have a really warped sense of humor" I imagine them sitting around the lunch table cracking jokes about people like me. Humorous cracks like; Lets see him figure this out; ;)

Im guessing there is a way to set the 2 programs up so that they mold seamlessly together when you write your copy in word the borders and pages just work but the print layout function worked really well.

Im thinking that Powerpoint might be easier and it might make things more aesthetically pleasing, so thats my next mission, make something in powerpoint then convert it to PDF.

Anyone know any handy tips for using Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro? I am especially interested in learning some handy tips in relation to making a Powerpoint presentation and converting it to PDF
