I strongly agree with your suggestion about education. I know the best investment you can ever make is in yourself.
However I wanted to add that your mindset is very important.
My first experience in network marketing is a prime example.
Even though I didn't make money with this opportunity, did I fail?
No, I gained an education. I learned what didn't work and knew I had to do things differently.

Re: The #1 Reason People Fail
Good points. I think that the #1 reason people fail comes down to one word, attitude. You have to have the right attitude going into a new business. Treat it like a business and it will make you money, treat it like a hobby and it will cost.
Don't expect to get rich overnight. This is not the lottery, its a business, you have to treat it as such.
Your attitude is affected by many things. I also feel it is important to find the right sponsor/mentor/coach. You need someone that is going to give you the tools and training you need to be successful. Find someone you feel a connection too and want to be in business with. Find someone who is already seeing some success. Ask to see their geneology or copies of checks. If someone is fairly new to a business and has not built a large downline, or gotten large checks yet, ask to see their prospect list. These are all indicators that this person is seeing some success. If they refuse to show you these things, I'd be a bit cautious.
Also find a product you can become pationate about. Get involved with something that you are excited about when you get out of bed in the morning. Something that makes you want to run to your computer even before you have your first cup of coffee to see if you have any new e-mails or prospects.

Everyone is right, it takes a good attitude + tools that will help you succeed.
I agree the old school way is not as effective as today's marketing methods.
Why face rejection consistently, which wastes a lot of time, money and energy, when you have a marketing method that brings interested prospects to you.

Keep investing... In Yourself
Found a great quote today by Jim Rohn that fits this topic, it was:
"Work harder on yourself than you do on your job."
The Magnetic Sponsoring course is hands down one of the best courses on the planet for network marketers today.
But, just as Mr. Dillard said in his book it is not the 'final say' or 'end-all-be-all' course at all. Furthering one's education should be a priority, especially right AFTER you have become "successful" (success defined by your own terms).
You need to have the vision first, the vision of exactly what you want. You can't get what you want if you're not focused on anything. Once you have the focus and vision in place it's a matter of one taking ACTION on attaining that vision.
That's why people fail miserably most of the time. They have no idea what they want to accomplish in the first place.

Re: The #1 Reason People Fail
While I agree that education and self investment is vital I think the number one reason people fail could be broadened here a bit. Ultimately people only fail when they quit. Perhaps they would not have quit if they had invested in themselves but this is one of many potential causes. If failure is defined as not reaching some desired point of income then most people fail because they do not put in the required effort to build a business. I'm not sure there is one reason rising up over everything else rather many things that are connected and vital to success.
And let me say that "old school" methods do work with consistent action. Don’t get me wrong I generate all of my leads online today. I just wanted to point out that while there are more effective methods, the reason old school tactics didn’t work for someone is they stopped the input of consistent action. The only reason I mention this is I think unfortunately sometimes new school methods are misunderstood by newbies as something that takes less work. For me relatively, the new school methods required a lot less hassle but lots of work none the less. New school methods are more about streamlining than reduction of work. Thanks for bringing out the importance of personal growth and reminding everyone of the power of listening to those who have gone before you.

Re: The #1 Reason People Fail
I couldn't agree more. Constant education is one of the secrets of wealthy people. I think this is explained in MS book the best way. I couldn't imagine someone to stop educating himself after reading magnetic sponsoring. It's truly the beginning of your education as stated in the book. There are lot of ways to grow, books, audio, videos, seminars, webinars, mastermind groups, courses..etc. The wealthies people have the biggest personal libraries, and that is not an accident. Of course we can't say strictly that education alone is #1 reason poeple fail, but there is no person who is both successful and don't educate themself.

Re: The #1 Reason People Fail
I believe network marketers fail because they are ...
1. Not talking to people
2. Not talking to enough people
3. Not talking to the right people
And some network marketers just Talk Too Much!

Re: The #1 Reason People Fail
Nice to see you here, Melanie. I believe the number one reason some people fail, is the company they are involved with does not have a system in place that is to duplicate. Also, some programs simply cost too much to be involved with or to advertise. (I am referring in part to direct mail advertising.)
Find out what the F.U.S.S. system is all about!
