The Good, The Bad & The Ugly. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?

Postby willie robertson on Mon Feb 06, 2012 10:29 am

Hello BN family,

Today I read a very insightful article from one of our own. Mavis Nong.

Whether we like it or not, some where along the way, we as marketer's will likely come across some one who will not agree with nor like something we write about on our blogs or other post.

So, my question to you is, The Good, The Bad & The Ugly side of marketing. CAN YOU HANDLE IT?

See the great post Mavis wrote on the subject:

Way to go Mavis,

There are lots of way to build a business the book E-Myth says if you want to be a leader you must be willing to look stupid. Leaders always think outside of the box. I am a network marketer but I also work as a consultant with executives from Forutne 500 companies, Pro atheles, ect... So I talk a lot about other skills in building a business that is not traditionally taught in network marketing but tactic that still work.

Not everyone agrees I have had people talk bad about some tactic I use becuase it is not taught in MLM.

Our goal is to build a relationship you will only build relationship if people like youso even if you do not agree with what people say. Remember we were told as a kid if you can't say something nice don't say anything at all.

Even if we don't agree don't say anything or say something possitive.

Respectfully,

I positively disagree. Does that count, Chris? :)

While we certainly should be cordial, the strength of platforms like Better Networker is the opportunity it gives us to be exposed to different perspectives.

As to the original post, one of the keys that have helped me in this regard, is to not get caught in a need to prove that I'm right. Don't let your ego push you into a debate that will do nothing for the development of your business. Simply move on.

In one of Jim Rohn's seminars he discusses the greatest speech ever giving in the history of mankind. He's referring to the Sermon on the Mount. When the speech was over, there were some believers and some non believers. Did the speaker get caught up in why the nonbelievers were nonbelievers? Nope. Did he get caught up in trying to convince them to be believers? Again, nope. He simply moved on to another audience and gave the speech again. And found more believers.

That sermon is a good analogy. The same speaker sent people out by twos to go door knocking. He told them if a home did nit accept them they were to wipe the dust off their feet and go to the next home. In other words, shake it off and forget it. If you don't shake it off it will spill over and negatively affect your next prospect.

Our business is about sifting and sorting, not convincing!

I find many people who disagree with my viewpoints, my writing style, and what I write on my website.

I always respond by saying that "we can agree to disagree." And then I move on.

If we all agreed on everything, the world would be boring. And if we all worried about what others thought, we would get nowhere fast!

Whether they agree or disagree, love us or hate us should not deter. I heard many say that we will all have our own following, and I do I know all of you do. Not everyone is going to like us. Mavis shared in a group I have been part of this post that spurred her post here. We are all here to build a business and gather our own group around us. I have had some that challenge and criticize its just part of it.

The most important thing is will you let those who criticize take you down, or will you use that to get better and stronger?

That is my two cents

Charles makes a good point. Prospecting is primarily about sorting. And if you're properly using a blog as a marketing tool, you really should be primarily interested in those people who raise their hands and identify themselves as being interested in what you have to offer.

I always work on the basis that I am unable to manage what others do and say, however I can manage how what they say and do makes me feel....that's all!

Thanks BN family for your input.

I remember reading a post on David Woods blog last year, where David was simply sharing a video from a conference he had attended.

I do not remember the speaker's name on the video, but he was talking pretty fast, but you could still make out what he was saying.

He was speaking on the subject of having success in your life. I got blessed from the message as did many others, but I remember a comment someone left on the blog, kinda lighting into David saying, you guru types this, that and the other. It was pretty negative.

I thought David Wood, being the classic marketer he is, handled it quite well. He simply told the guy that he needed to get himself and negative energy in check, else success would most likely always elude him.
