I was recently approached by one of my fellow network marketers about this new company there getting involved with, how great the compensation plan is...how great the company is...and I just wanted to ask this question.

You ask, "What makes a Network Marketing company a great company"?
For starters, YOU make the network marketing company a very great company.
It's funny they say that the product will sell itself. But it's you who have to drive it to the customers.
People will join you in your business not the business. You give life to the business and not the other way around.
You would take a suggestion from 'Donald Trump' because you believe in him. And everything he says would turn gold in return. You are buying into his name and not the business.
You would want people to join you because they believe and trust you in whatever you are promoting.
If you don't believe in yourself and your product you are promoting, then how can anyone else believe you and follow you to help them to reach their goals?

I will say that first thing is the product.
If the product is no good - nothing will help and the company is on their way down.
If the product will sell without relation to the mlm opportunity - then we are to a good start.
Later - comes the management.
If the management is not professional, reliable - then - you are in bad shape.
Next - comes the competition - who are the competitors. Does your company have the finance to compete?
Later - will come the compensation plan and all the rest..

Hey

First and foremost you need to be taught your trade, just like any other job before you would start.

Then I would have to agree with Mario here. He makes a very good point, if they like the idea of the product they then buy into you because they feel attached and have some trust within you. At first I would say to concentrate on giving before receiving, if you can grasp this then you have overcome one giant hurdle.

Thanks Jacov, very good points to consider when checking out any company. You're right Lydia, the old phrase of "ignorance on fire" needs to be revamped. We need to educate our distributors and help them learn our trade.
