Chris. I was an offline entrepreneur for years. Worked in marketing in newspaper sales for the same number of years. What I didn't realize for the first 5 years online was that a business is a business whether it's off or online.
I held up the blueprint for running an offline business to the current online methods and realized I knew why 97% of people were failing. They lack business skills first and foremost.
On a more personal note the biggest comparison is the lack of transparency online. No business owner I know (offline) doesn't tell you what business they are in. Online finding out what business someone is in is like pulling teeth. You're in business, why hide it??

Yep, you have to have skills to run a business. That doesn't mean you have to have them when you start a business in Network marketing. Network Marketing is a people business and a sales business. Knowing how to find prospects and invite are two of the most important skills needed. They can be learned and practice makes perfect. A willingness to invest in your personal growth is the first step in business.
This is a group of accomplished business owners who for the most part are already successful. They take personal growth to the extreme knowing it will allow them to take their business to another level.Joe Polish run a group of very high end business people called the $25K group it take $25,000 to be part of this group.

Network marketing really is a unique business model with a unique form of leverage. But just like in any business, one of the most important thing to have is positive cash flow i.e. getting customers through the door.
This means selling product and selling your business opportunity.
The relationship building is the followup process. The relationship is what keeps a network marketing organization sustained but bottom line is we are selling either product or opportunity in the front end.
The reality is we have to get good at prospecting and selling (front end) in addition to building strong relationships and coaching (backend)

What I have learned that has come true from many other opportunities is to never quit. Keep working at your goal until you achieved what you wanted out of it. In the meantime, learn as much as you can.
My background has never been in marketing. I went to college for that and have a general idea of how things works. I left that stage of my life over 40 years ago and never looked back.
Now I have the opportunity to explore this again with a new edge on marketing and learning new skills and techniques that were not available back then. I still have a lot of catching up to do.

Re: What MLM leader do not show us
I do a lot of the things you just mentioned now Chris, because they work and I get calls about my business almost daily seven days a week. Then again, I do marketing and selling for a living, i.e. SEO/SEM/PR, advertising, email marketing and all that encompasses sales and marketing for a cell phone accessories business here in LA where I live, so it's second nature to me and not for most, so I can't imagine how they are even making money really.
Maybe spending a lot making mistakes, but making money (NET) is a whole different ball game all together and not for the amateur or even novice online, because the competition online now is so much more competitive, you can't afford to be lacking in any area to really make a full time living especially in the Network Marketing Industry from what I've found.
So with that being said, I hope it helps. HF
