Tony Lauria recently made a forum post entitled Is Attraction Marketing about Being a Better Liar?
It's an excellent post that tactfully touched on a subject that isn't talked about much when it comes to attraction marketing. A lot of us have probably thought about it. I know I have recently. Apparently it's struck a nerve with a lot of other people also. Just check out all the replies his post has been getting. It's one of the hottest posts out there right now.
Along with this subject, I think it's good for one to consider the difference between posture and lying. As positive people in business it's imperative that one has posture. What would you say is the difference? When does having posture cross the line into lying?
I made an attempt to address the difference in the form of an illustration. The copy of my reply to Tony Lauria's forum post is below in italics. But, what would you say is the difference between posture and lying?
There was a scene in Circus School when a little girl was performing in front of an audience and she fell from the trapeze on to the net below. In the process, she bumped herself on a hard structure and from the camera angle you could see that she started to cry as she was getting up.
But here's the beautiful part. Oh you have to see it. My words won't do it justice! As she got down from the net, she did so in sort of a flip. And she raised herself erect and thrust out her wings(arms) proudly and triumphantly with the face of a queen. No one knew that she was crying seconds prior, no one knew the pain she was containing, no one knew the agony she went through backstage as her coaches and mentors cared for the shoulder she used to raised her arm so proudly.
You can see it for yourself, just fast forward to 25:00minutes
People do that in business all the time. It's called posture. Yes, and the ones that have posture are more likely to succeed.
I very much appreciate this forum post. Some excellent points were made that do deserve consideration. However, I just wanted to say that there is a difference between being a liar and having posture.
What are your thoughts?

A lie is a lie.
Posture is the manifestation of confidence in what you are doing,
where you are going and the unwavering BELIEF that you'll get there.

Re: What's The Difference Between Lying And Having Posture?
People that have 'posture' exhibit an air of self-confidence about them. Others want to be around them and be associated with them. They have leadership qualities that are apparent to everyone who meets them. When they talk to prospects they are completely in control of the conversation, not in an arrogant or bossy way but in an 'I know where I am going and follow me and I will get you to where you want to go also' way.
To have genuine posture you first have to believe that you are indeed that person.
I always recognize a person with posture even if there are 20 other people in the room. Others gravitate to them and just about hang on their every word.

I think you're right on. And to add, that belief must be there no matter how one is viewed by others.
Thanks for sharing your points Jan.

Hey Roy,
Thanks for marketing my name
Glad to see my post has spawned another thread.
Richard has surely nailed what posturing is: self-confidence that you'll deliver what you believe in as you're doing it.
But . . .
what happens when you know your product/management/comp plan all suck and you're still trying to deliver it? Is that posturing or lying?
Just a thought.
Thanks again. I'll check back in to see what the next brilliant person has to say.
I appreciate this community immensely.

No problem Tony. I like spreading a little "link love". That's what networking is all about! I intend to do more of it as I participate in this community. Just another way to add value. Thanks for stopping by!
