You Don't Get It...!

Postby on Thu Dec 11, 2008 8:40 am

No one seems to get it...!

It's incredible how people get so excited about building huge teams under them but they're not even thinking about the whole premise behind network marketing...

In any respect, networking means to branch out and make connections through other connections you've already created and then marketing means you 'advertise' some kind of product or service that will hopefully improve people's lives and you do this through those 'connections' you've already created...

*suspicious expression with a wrinkled forehead*

I know we all want to make it big as quickly as possible but the incredible city of Rome wasn't built in a day...

Yeah, I know - I've heard that before too but it's true because if you think about all these people telling you to get as many 'heavy hitters' on your team as you can, you have to realize that these heavy hitters are not doing this to improve anyone's life except their own and that will not build any kind of powerful empire like Rome was...

All in all, most heavy hitters are primarily doing their best to build as big a team as they can so they will get as big a bonus check as possible and that won't last at all, even though they think it will...

I say "I'm going to make it big..." because I'm bringing it real and even though I'm sure there will be great opposition to what I'm saying, my efforts will ALWAYS win in the end...!

Does anything I just said rub you the wrong way...?

If so, let me hear about it and bring it at me full force, I'm ready for it...

*down in a three-point stance, ready to take it on*

absolutely! Rome wasn't build in a day and no one can build a network marketing organization in a day, even big hitters.
in any cases slower to medium growth organizations last longer. Sponsor too many people at once and you will not have the time to give them the training and support they need to stay in for very long.

Good afternoon Michael.
I am hearing your pain!! :ugeek:
As for being told to "Get as many Heavy Hitters as you can"....I am not sure i have been in the same room as these advisors? Ever!...
Maybe its the type of network i am in or i am not a True networker (i really dont know), but i have posted a few bits n bobs on several threads and on one of them i mentioned i dont actually have any "heavy hitters, or network marketers" on my team except an ex door to door sales man!! my team have come from pure one to one training, developement, and guidance from yours truely. I always believe in quality rather than quantity and even though there are few above me in the company making it a little bigger than i am i really believe in building your foundations deep strong and personal to you. My team are my friends, is this normal?
I only ever came into this business because i moved area and wanted to meet people, that still hasnt changed!.... I love the money, but i love the relationships i have made and still make... even more!.
So I am with you Michael, but, dont rely on me to back you up here, i am a real newbie to the site and i may get eaten alive now
I must say though, i may not have been so "In ya face" as you but i love your direct approach on the subject.

Michael,

I feel where you're coming from, but...

Marketing is NOT advertising. In fact, there's a big difference between the two.

Marketing is about finding the right people for your message. Marketing is about crafting your message in a way that appeals to those people. Marketing is a very creative, artsy thing.

Advertising, on the other hand, is very process driven. It's about exposure, and rates, and response tracking, etc. If you jump right into advertising, without putting on the marketing hat first, you're headed for trouble.

As to the topic of heavy hitters... About 90 days into joining my first MLM, I decided to go after realtors for my team. I wanted to target professional people, who knew how to be successful in business. I'm not in this for the free trips... I want results, and I want to be smart about getting them.

So, while I was out to lunch at one of my favorite spots (a local deli with the best Reuben in town!), I noticed the real estate magazines on display near the cash register. One of them in particular had a lot of high-dollar homes in it. Knowing that new and/or struggling realtors don't serve this market, I figured I'd find some sharp realtors advertising in it.

On the cover was one guy who got my attention. If he was shelling out the dough to place his ad on the cover, I knew he was successful, and I knew he knew how to market. So, I called him.

"Hey, Steve... my name is Jeff Hoffman... I was just out to lunch and saw your smiling face on the cover of XYZ Magazine, so I wanted to give you a call. You don't know me... I'm an entrepreneur -- I own an Internet marketing business here in Charlotte -- and I'm expanding my business here in Charlotte. Occasionally, I like to put my feelers out, and personally call the people that catch my attention. You look like a really sharp guy, and you got my attention.

"So, getting to the point, I have a really simple question for you, Steve... do you, at all, keep your options open as far as making money outside of real estate, assuming it won't distract you too much from what you're obviously very successful at?"

30 days later, after meeting for lunch and a few more conversations, this guy was in my business. Turns out, he was among the top 1% in the entire US for his company. He is a "heavy hitter" if I've ever seen one. His existing sphere of influence was HUGE, and in the first 30 days on my team he had recruited 63 people to my team. I was scrambling to keep up with the enrollments, orientation training, etc.

My point is... there is definitely something to the idea of being smart about who you go after.

That's been my experience, anyway.

Warm Regards,
Jeff

Hi J, that was excellent marketing/selling and promoting. I also agree that being selective in who you bring to the team is the best way.

OMG yes...!

I was expecting a bunch of opposing comments but you guys have surprised me yet again...

Of course, I'm not one of those people who see everything with a shadow cast over it but I do admit that my days of star gazing & just day dreaming are long over - I'd say I'm a real realist really...

I hope more of you make some kind of comments about this because your comments just build me up more & more and that means you're all being helpful with a servant's heart...!

You know I truly do understand the need for training for most associates. But do you think there are people who can be succesful in our busines by merely having a genreral overview of the services that we provide. I see these people every day in front of me.

This is great. BTW What is your training style? Do emphasize the following marketing style:

1. A marketer who shares information about a service that they use and have experience that it is effective.

I believe this method is most effective with those who have had a profound positive experience with the product they are sharing information about. I met one wellness marketer who is doing excellent based on her goals and her productivity of referrals in her Business Network referral group. They probably use the style that you train your associates with.

My technique is completely different and is based on the philosophy that I can find plenty of people with communicatoin skills that are perfect for direct/network marketing. I see these people every day. My experience around great marketers in my company and other companies only reinforce it.

hello justice44
My training style...
I genuinely Love the products i sell/promote. I believe in the ethics of the company. And my training style with representatives is to show them exactly what it is I do, no gimiks no pie in the sky expectations, just a simple training process of how to find a customer, how to keep the customer and on top of that i have a website with a couple of hundred FREE downloads for them to use at any time (promotional posters, stickers, flyers, easy steps on where to find customers...you name it its on there for them to print of at the touch of a button). Training recruiters, sales leaders, is a lot more one on one training guidance, i have put together scripts, systems, & fire proof ways of identifying other possible recruiters/sales leaders within their own team and i also supply guidance on advertising and marketing and set personal incentives for them to achieve i.e We gave away 12 sat navs this year to sales leaders that achieved certain targets etc....

I think judging from what i have read over the past few days my kind of networking is very different to most on here. Within my business we HAVE to sign up our team members FACE TO FACE...we cannot recruit people over the phone or via an email form, so....i suppose the fact there is the personal touch, one on one contact i am unable to do the kind of networking most of you do on here. Basically, having a hundred leads a day would not actually benefit my network as i couldnt possibly call them all personally. Saying that, around 90% of the leads i get in i give away to my downline anyway, so a few more would be great!! We can only recruit in the UK aswell so i suppose this limits me also...I give away several leads in the US to Lisa Wilber my very good friend and mentor.
hope this answers a few questions for you?
