Best SOLO Ad Sites?

Postby Ronny Abraham on Thu Sep 25, 2008 10:14 pm

I have tried SOLO ads a few times, but not much luck.

Any great SOLO ad services/sites that you can recommend?

Thanks.

This is a question that might not get very specific answers because of competition. It is a real gamble when trying to find good solo ad companies. As a general rule just because solo ad are cheap that reach a large audience does not mean the subscribers are motivated buyers. Sometimes you are better to buy more expensive ads with a smaller more targeted audience. There are no guarantees as it is all trial and error. Tracking your ads is critical so you can see what works and what doesn't. You might want to try

In general, I would be careful with ezine co-ops. These are the sites where you pay once and your ad gets run in multiple ezines. There are two big problems with these:

  • It's difficult to track results. The same URL gets run in all the ezines, so you don't know if five of the ezines are performing well, or just one. You can't optimize by keeping the winners and dropping the losers. All you know is the overall results, which puts you in a "take it or leave it" position.
  • The ezines that participate in these co-ops often run more ads than they should. The co-op sells a bunch of ads, and the ezine publishers are required to send them. So, they mail too many solos--one a day, or more--and the list becomes less responsive.

Hope this helps,

Jeff hit it on the head.

The plus side of these co-ops are that they're inexpensive to do solos in. Jeff listed the cons above.

The best way to use the solo co-ops are with a proven solo ad that you know converts well.

Here's some tips in addition to the resource Jeff listed...

1. Subscribe to the ezine
2. See how often solo ads are sent out
3. See what the "tone" of the ezine is.. stay away from ezines that are just fronts for ads upon ads with no substance. Who looks forward to reading ads all the time?!
4. Ask the publisher of the ezine... I'm thinking about running this kind of ad. How do you think your subscribers will respond to it? Some ezine publishers will answer that question and some won't.

http://www.Solo-Ads.com is one place to do a solo. You have to agree to get like 5 solo ads per day and when you click on the link inside the emails, you get credits. After so many credits you can send out a solo ad.

I have had some pretty good success with Ezines in the past. There is more to advertising with an ezine than just the solo ad.

A good place to find ezines is on the directory of ezines.

I have also written an article about how to find the right ezine and what the best way is to place your ad.

I go into detail on the steps needed to get results. Things like...

- Does price matter?
- Does the size of the list matter?
- how about the length of your ad?
- how to get your ad featured?
- and more

Hope this helps.

Thanks

I use a few different ezine sites with decent results.

One recommendation I always give to my students is to always subscribe to the ezine yourself for a few weeks/issues and see..

1.) what the quality of the content is
2.) if there's 20 solo's (i.e. SPAM!) sent out per week
3.) if the same solo ads are sent out alot (i've seen this alot where the same solo will run 3 weeks in a row...)

As for my secrets- I give them all away in my Explode My Business Masterminds Course ;)

Use demc.com and send people to a capture page and then build a relationship with the leads before you try to recruit them.

The recommendation to AT LEAST subscribe to ezines before you advertise with them is great, and a MUST.
I'll admit that I've been scammed once or twice and that while there are great ezines which are great for advertising, there are also quite a few scams out there.

Another suggestion is to email the person who runs the ezine and ask them a few questions like how many ads they run per week. I've even asked them what a typical open rate is for their ezine and ads are. If they are not willing to give up that information, go find another one.

Yes, you do need to do your research when using these.....I've gotten such wide results as varying from $0.10 per click to $25 (yes dollars) per click.

Good luck

Just to share my experiences in the last week. I have posted on TopSurfer and got over 500 visits to my site with some luck in prospects. I am just trying out another one called Planetxmail so we will see what happens.

I have another 8 recommended to try so I can let you know how I get on.
